The Jurnal

The Jurnal was a newspaper originally brought to life by a group of Juru-affiliated citizens as an alternative to The Harkom Herald. While Teel 's longest running (and currently only) newspaper traditionally focusses on topics primarily pertaining civilized life, The Jurnal meant to sharpen sensibilities for Juru culture amongst common people. Furthermore, it aimed to offer a platform for citizens with sympathies for or familial bonds to (often mortalized) Juru.

History

In late 87 AS, a group of Juru-affiliated citizens was rejected at The Harkom Herald's printery service when it desired to produce and publish a pamphlet deemed „seditious and harmful to Teel's progressive spirit“. While this stance was regarded as The Herald's fair right in many places, others were more acutely made aware of certain difficulties outspoken Juru-affiliated people might face in then-modern Teel.     At just about the same time, Tansot Nobble, creator and founder of Tannebrew Beer, finished the relocation of his business to a bigger premise, therefore leaving the old Tannebrew building empty and unused. Nobble was sympathetic to what he viewed as „unfair treatment“ and rented his former brewery out to the Juru-affiliated publishers-to-be, offering them extremely favourable conditions and setting them up with basic printing equipment. He justified his benevolent attitude by remarking that „no feeling, thinking and drinking person should be denied the right to speak their mind“.

Financing and distribution

The Jurnal was published rather irregularly, with periods between issues varying from two to six waves. In total, 66 issues were released to those who left their name on a subscription list. In good faith, subscribers usually paid upfront. The irregularity in publication was in part due to The Jurnal's much less pronounced focus on commercial advertising as well as their other services: Keen to differentiate itself from The Harkom Herald and its restrictive stance, the team of The Jurnal happily offered people from all over the peninsula to use the facility for an appropriate fee and without any kind of constraining content check.

Discontinuation

After the devastating Tannebrew Fire, the publication of The Jurnal abruptly ceased to be. No editorial staff was harmed during the nightly incident, but distrust and fear of more attacks discouraged the team from continuing their publicist work.
