Sisters of Fate
Two goddesses, sisters, ruled over all of fortune and luck. Tymora, goddess of good luck, brought about good fortune to those she watched over. Giving gifts and gold without fail to all she spied, with her the people became complacent and unwilling to strife for more. Beshaba, goddess of misfortune, brought about ruin to those she watched, ranging from stubbed toes to foreclosed homes, with her the people became fearful and protective, unwilling to risk their possessions and strive for greatness. Together, the two of them balanced one another, keeping watchful eyes over each other's focus, ensuring that the people of this world experienced both victories and failures and grew wise from their many experiences.
As the population grew however, Tymora and Beshaba agreed that a partition of their strength should be gifted directly to the world. A blessing and curse bestowed upon the world in the form of halflings. People with the capacity to bend fortune in their own favor yet cursed with small stature and a low population. A happy folk who can spread their gift to all. Spreading their influence quickly as many hands do better than few. Tymora and Beshaba together gave a lofty part of themselves to their people then merged together into a single entity, Istus, goddess of all fates who watched over the world, weaving vast tapestries of the stories she saw and providing boons to the humble and banes to the proud.
