Greenbarrow Wilds

Tamed by None

Reaching from the southern rim of the Boreal Woodland and descending in long, broken waves south toward the Forgotten Grasslands, the Greenbarrow Wilds are as vast as they are untamed. Composed of rugged hills, open plains, sharp river valleys, and wind-swept cliffs, the region is a patchwork of harsh beauty—wildly vegetated but never quite forested, its trees scattered like wayward thoughts across the land.   The Wilds remain largely unmapped. The rivers here shift course subtly over time, and no paths lasts more than a few seasons without being reclaimed by the terrain. The soil varies unpredictably—rich and black in some places, stony and pale in others—making sustained settlement impractical. Only a couple of isolated coastal hamlets cling to the western bluffs, their homes built low against the wind and sea-spray.   The region is home to an abundance of wildlife, many of them found nowhere else. Moss-antlered elk, duskfoxes, and hardy breeds of hill lark thrive here. Hunters sometimes travel into the Wilds in search of rare pelts or antlers—but they always travel light, and they never linger.   To most, Greenbarrow is the edge of what men can endure. It is a place that cannot be tilled, taxed, or tamed. And that, perhaps, is its quiet defiance.
