Holmsgarðr (HOLMS-GAR-THER)
The Holmsgarðr are an order of holy warriors in the The Fylkirate of Northmen. They are trained in the harshest environments The Fylkirate has to offer, in order to harden themselves against those who would strike out against the gods or their homeland.
Since faith and state are so intricately intertwined in The Fylkirate, the Holmsgarðr are in effect elite shock troopers for the nation. Particularly talented members of the order have been known to channel divine power, either through clerical study or a sworn oath upon the Holmsgarðr's sigil.
Etymology
The word Holmsgarðr is a compound of 'Holm', which means 'home' and 'Garðr' which means 'one who guards', effectively translating to 'one who guards the home'.
