Dragons

Dragons in Tascallon are born in the World Tree and call no singular plane home. The nature of dragons on this plane is unique for several reasons. Dragons plant their eggs directly into The World Tree and leave them there, allowing the astral energies to promote growth. Once the child is ready to hatch, it emerges as a colorless, translucent dragonling. Dragons absorb the astral energy around them as they grow older, and the energy they spend the most time around in youth are a determining factor in the color of their scales. If an egg is placed near a Plane, it may take its color far sooner than normal. Scales are also altered in color by the moral compass they grow to possess. Dragons have no need to eat, but often savor the flavors of the world for pleasure. Instead, they subsist entirely from absorbing astral energy by flying closely along the causeways throughout The World Tree. Dragons travel at their fastest while outside of the Planes, as they are closest to their main source of energy, and generally do not need to fear colliding with anything they can’t see coming. Should a dragon spend too much time in a plane, and remain too far from raw astral energy, their body and mind will deteriorate over time. When in this state, they tend to lose almost all their memories, descending into a nigh feral state, surviving on nothing but fight-or-flight reflex and scrounging whatever energy they can from the area. This damage cannot be undone, but the symptoms will not worsen any further should the dragon be returned to The World Tree.

Crystalline Dragons

In exceedingly rare cases, a dragon’s scales take on no color. If a dragon does not spend an exceeding long time near any specific plane, they simply gain no base color, instead turning their scales crystalline. The side effect of this is their scales are particularly sensitive, absorbing more astral energy from their surroundings. As such, they are prized for their ability to store raw magic.
