The Mist Lord

"Long ago, when Hailsoshia first settled, and men and women flooded the city in the new world, many strange things happened. Monsters common folk had never seen dotted the sprawling lands. Creatures that men could handle when they fought with intent, even if one or two lost their lives in the process."
"One day, a man went to the shore to await for the next ship of travelers carrying his wife and child. He waited for hours, and hours, but alas, they never did come that day. But it did not stop his patient watch on the sandy shore. He waited through the night and cold. The moon rose, and guided his vigilant watch through the odd hours of the night, being his only companion. The waves came, and went, but the ship never did."
"Days had passed, and the man continued his watch, a statue. Sleep never crossed his mind as his nerves rose day by day. On the fourth night without rest, a gentle mist covered the ground, and obscured the lands and sea. Still, this did not stop him. He believed that they must be due soon, and that all he need do is wait. While the mans eyes grew heavy, his will never faltered."
As the fog grew thicker and heavier, the man spotted a silhouette buried deep in the fog. But twas no ship he saw, but that of a man. As the silhouette approached, it grew bigger and bigger until it was almost double that of a regular man. It carried no features, nor showed any signs of hair or muscle. No eyes or a mouth painted the creatures face either. A mist fell from it's body, oozing from invisible wounds to cover the water path it walked."
"As the monster approached a stones throw away, it stopped its approach. As the mist continued to fall, it swirled, coming together to form more figures. A woman, and a young child stood upright, no expression painting their empty faces. The man, overcome with terror, yelled at the creature. He demanded his family. He pleaded for it to return them. But it did not care, it merely looked on with its featureless face."
"Determined to get his family back, the man jumped to the sea, wading until he was fully emerged, struggling to get closer. The monster did not care though. It turned with and spread its arms, the silhouette family disappearing as they walked deeper into the mist."
"The man was cast back onto land by the ruthless sea, and he was knocked into darkness. Awaking late the next day, the mist had passed, and the sun gleamed over the noon sea. His family was gone, and the man fell into a deep sadness. Taking himself, the man walked the edges of Hailsoshias cliffs. Overlooking the sea one last time for his family, he leapt, casting himself against the rocks, hundreds of feet bellow. Neither him, nor his family were ever seen again."
