Shadar-Kai

The Shadar-Kai are a race of mortals who now live their existence out in The Great Fade under the protection of a mysterious entity known only as "The Raven Queen". Life in the Great Fade is draining on the soul, so they typically turn to self scarification, piercings, and tattoos as the pain they feel helps connect them with the feeling of life. They speak of once hailing from a world that was overrun by the undead, but they were not discovered by the Empyreals like the races of Tariel - The Raven Queen was their escape. The most loyal and accomplished heroes of the Shadar-Kai hope to be selected to become Sorrowsworn - powerful entities that act as extensions of The Raven Queen's will.
