Ears
"Look mate, we don't know nothing, not really. All we've heard of the scaled folk and their movements are mere whispers, rumors of drunks, liars and thieves! Please don't hurt us!!!" The man trembling, collapsing to his knees.
The halfling chuckled, his gun trained on the man, but he holstered his pistol, nodding to his half-orc assistants. "Get him up boys, and get him a stiff drink." The halfling pulled up a stool, sliding the man a glass of stiff whiskey. Still smiling he laid his knife on the table, point facing the man, the threat still obvious. Laughing he winked, knocking back a glass of the fine liquor. Smacking his lips he nodded. "Good drink that. You don't get it, Tree-legs, you really don't. There is always truth to the rumors of drunks, liars and thieves, many times more truth than the words of those who speak well, with the flowers and soft tongues of the highborn. I love me some gutter rumors. So start squeaking for me rat. I'm all Ears."
Composition
Manpower
Some estimates place the number of agents at the Ears disposal in the range of 3000.
Equipment
Same as always, the best available, but always tailored to the assignment, the location, the culture, the situation and the cover story.
Weaponry
Same as always, the best available, but always tailored to the assignment, the location, the culture, the situation and the cover story.
Vehicles
Same as always, the best available, but always tailored to the assignment, the location, the culture, the situation and the cover story.
Structure
Rumor has it that a skilled diviner and oracle, Teysa Viven, is the one in command of the Ears, but no one can fully link her to this.
Tactics
Adapted always to their situation, their cover, the objective and indeed the culture of the area they are operating in.
Training
All manner of training is employed by the Ears, even some harsh methods. Prison time is part and parcel, a test of adaptability, survival skills, and the ability to function and perform and stay cool under pressure. Along with insuring you'll stay loyal even in rough situations. Diplomacy, tutoring from all manner of noble and instructors.
Logistics
Logistical Support
A well established information network, as with all the intelligence groups. But beyond that, the Ears seem to have a better rapport with the Children of the Swamp than any other part of Kang-Chorath's citizenry, or indeed of the military. As one would imagine this grants agents access to an entirely separate information chain.
Auxilia
Depends on the mission, cover, and location.
Upkeep
Only the Tribal Council truly knows, as, since this is an intelligence apparatus, their budget is a black budget, not for the eyes, ears, or knowledge of the common folk.
Recruitment
Recruits come from all walks of life, no one truly knows what they look for or how they pick them.
History
Once the nation's interior had been consolidated, it was time to figure out how this six tribe allegiance, this new republic like nation would fit in on the new Valerick, politically, that was forming. What role would they play, how would they insure they could protect their borders, and participate on the international stage. To insure they could keep up. It was all this discussion that led to the birth of the Ears.
