Dryad
In a world where true wilderness is but a distant memory, dryads would seem out of place to any not already familiar with their presence. Yet even among the sprawl of hewn stone, channeled waterways and carefully crafted glasswork, dryads can be found, appreciating the natural beauty that still grows between the stones of the city. The dryads of Ravnica appear similar to humans, but vines seem to grow up their forearms from their hands, and their hair is a mass of branches and ivy-like vines, decorated with leaves that change colour with the easons.
Stewards of Forgotten Wilds
In the years before the signing of the guildpact, before the first foundations for the city to come were laid, true forests were present on Ravnica, great tracts of untamed land where the predecessors of Ravnica's elves lived among the boughs. Here too, dwelled dryads, fey creatures who spoke with the plants, with the beasts that wandered between the trees, and to the soul of the world itself, heeding its words and guarding the wilds from dark unnatural forces. As factions began to form across ancient Ravnica, a collective of dryads united to become one as Mat'Selesnya, Parun of the Selesnya Conclave, and a direct voice of the worldsoul. Dryads have continued to serve as members of the Selesnya Conclave for as long as it has existed, as champions, clerics, and speakers for the worldsoul.Architects of Nature
When open warfare between those ancient factions who would become the guilds drew to its conclusion with the signing of the guildpact, a strange new world grew around the dryads of Ravnica, but as trees still grew among the adolescent metropolis, dryads too found their way in thisurban world, tending to nature in a harmony with the city. As the city grew, dryads took a role in ensuring that the natural world continued to grow as a part of it. As a result, natural life has maintained a place in the city for as long as it has existed, branches stretching out from balconies to provide shade for stonework verandas, with a smattering of leafy canopies dividing the tiled roofs of buildings.Ravnica Races Expanded

age:
The average dryad's lifespan mirrors that of some longer-living trees, usually living to a few decades over a century. They begin their lives appearing like non sentient plants, but slowly take the form of a dryad as they grow, a process accompanied by a slow development of consciousness, until they fully take form and gain full sentience. This process can be accelerated with the help of a skilled cultivator applying natural magic - often another dryad.
