Kanar / Avatiko or Bilkrat

The capitol city of Phystokovlik was originally the central settlement of the Kanar tribe, who were known for their warriors who wore the pelts of wolves and could "transform" into wolf spirits. Though there were warriors who wore the pelts of other animals, these wolf-warriors were the majority when the area was encountered by Syklov invaders.   The capitol city was afterward named Avatiko or Bilkrat (Fortress of Wolves) by the invaders. Though this was the official name, it was often shortened to Bilkrate Avatiko (Wolf-like Fortress) or Avabilkrat in the early years of Syklov settlement, before Avatiko or Bilkrat became a more generally accepted and officially recognized name.   As time went on, groups of people in Phystokovlik began to feel anger towards their Syklov rulers for invading and conquering their country. They sought to return to the old ways of their people, but information was limited on the pre-Syklov way of life. Even the old language of the region was nearly completely lost in favor of Syklovian, which was enforced by the state. These groups began calling the city by its supposed "original name," Kanar.   During the Independence Wars, Phystokovlik managed to attain independence in the western half of the country, right up until the "Kanar Line." This line stretched roughly vertically through Kanar, from the north of Phystokovlik to the border with Syklov. Once the battlefront reached this point, it stagnated and neither side was capable of moving it significantly in either direction for any prolonged period of time. A ceasefire was called in 1510, and independence was gained in 1520 after the assassination of the current Syklov Emperor in 1519.
