What kind of formal education is available to children in your world? Why is it available and how is it organized?
While there is no formal education for most residents on the continent of Tandari there are usually two options for those who seek to learn how to fight. Those who study and become potential mages at the heart of Tandari; Then there are those who learn how to wield a weapon and lead soldiers to fight. The Valkaran Academy was founded by Yevnar Valkara in order to promote his fighting style and leading skills as well as to secure his legacy. Those who complete their education here tend to become leaders of mercenary bands, Guard Captains in major cities, and Generals in armies.
Selection begins at a young age either though a hefty payment or recruiters roaming local villages, towns, and cities in search for hopeful recruits. The youngest recruits are usually around the age of eight, but never past the age of 16. Their training goes from the time they join till they are the age of 18 unless there is a special circumstance such as a promising recruit.
Training involves study of military battles, geography, logistics, and all aspects of maintaining an army. There are those who can choose to specialize but that is designed by a lead instructor. A common specialization is usually body guards, they are usually requested by nobles and those of high influence.
