Weird Pete's Challenge Session One
General Summary
Our intrepid adventurers meet up in Gnollsville seeking adventure. We have heard that a bartender, a Dwarf named Stonecrusher, is looking for a party to help him.
Despite the name, there are no Gnolls in this town or this area. The creatures were cleared out of their home to make a home for Dwarves and Humans instead. "How Human of them," Xandria muttered when she heard about the "Great Cleansing of Pests."
Behind the bar of the Gnoll's Tooth is a Dwarf, cleaning out glasses. As he cleans the glasses with his apron, the glasses get dirtier…
“I will skip the drinks,” Xandria says as she sits down at the bar.
He eyes us all down… “Anything I can get for ya?”
Ju asks, "You got anything without spit in it?"
Stonecrusher introduces himself and says he has mother's milk, his mother’s own recipe.
"I will just have a root beer," Alaric says.
The rest of us decline.
He asks, "Are you all a bunch of adventurers?"
"That is why we are here, you need help, we wanna help," Xandria says…
Ju chokes on the mother’s milk, "Large curd... or something...."
Stonecrusher tells us there is a ruin down the road, "They say it’s a haunted ruin… They hated gnolls, my family... When you get back, you get a free stay… My partner won’t mind too much."
It is noon, and we are the only ones here at the bar. Kind of troubling to the group, but we realized this is a small town surrounded by farms. People probably show up to relax after a busy day of working in their fields.
The ruin is about half a day out for us; we can't miss the hill, we will know when we come to it, up the hill, and a dwarf with beer will be at the door. "His name is Ballcrusher, he is the watch... He watches after breakfast, he watches after lunch, he leaves after dinner," we were told. Half a mile and hang a left, at the crossroad, we can see a good-sized hill and what appears to be ruins in the distance. It was probably the lookout of the area as it was the high point.
We see the Dwarf on top of a stool, with a mug and a large keg.
Xandria is the first to approach him, "Ballcrusher... your brother wants to know if you are still a 'good boy'?"
Outraged, Ballcrusher curses under his breath before looking at Xandria, "He said that, did he? Why I oughta... go and put another arrow in his ass..."
Ballcrusher picked up his stool, keg, and mug and walked down the hill. The poor Dwarf got no more than 10 steps away from the party before rolling down the hill with his keg, cursing all the way down until there was a crash... Ballcrusher stood up and yelled, "I am okay," as he picked up his mug and his broken stool and walked out of sight.
Missions/Quests Completed
Our mission for Stonecrusher was to go into his familial home, which is now a ruin, to get a book and a plate. He tells us that the ruins are haunted.
The only thing haunted about the ruins is the fairy lights that Xandria told the group are embedded into the stone and will go off at sundown. "With the full walls and ceiling, this would have been a spectacular light show." We find out after meeting Maldove that an old mage friend of his worked for Stonecrusher's family as their house mage and would have cast those fairy lights.
The book we were tasked to find is about Stonecrusher and Ballcrusher's family lineage. Stonecrusher and Ballcrasher have different fathers, and the statue outside the room is of Ballcrusher's dad.
Stonecrusher paid us 200 gold, and his parents two rings. We declined his parents' items, with all of us agreeing that those should be passed down to their grandchildren. We still have items that we kept from our mission.

The ruins of the castle caverns where the Dwarves once lived are overrun by Goblins. On entry to the ruins, Lucien found a bow that was almost brand new. As we searched through a smashed wagon, Sylfaren hmms thinking..."Why do I get a feeling we are not the first party who was sent in here by the bartender?" Xandria replied as she looked at bloody arrows nearby, "Because we aren't..." Branlen nudged the nearby bloody arrows with a toe. We also discovered a grave that was shallow, the final resting place of three Dwarves. two died of arrow hits, and another was run through with a sword. According to our Clerics, the Dwarves were killed about a month prior. We took the time to help the Clerics give the Dwarves their last rites. Sylfaren said, "This whole place feels like a trap." We encountered a Goblin Scout while searching for the cabinet that held the items Stonecrusher asked us to get. While we had no combat with the Scout other than him lobbing arrows that missed, we attempted to talk to him. That was futile, and he disappeared into the caverns. The group piled rubble and the broken wagon on top of the trap door so we could go about our search with an alert if anyone tried to open the trap door. Where there is one Goblin, there are certainly 100 more. The cabinet was not on the upper floor of the ruins, but Sylfaren found a pouch with five gold coins, two gold tokens with Stonecrusher's family crest emblazoned on them. As we went outside to rest for the night, we heard the Goblins trying to push up on the trap door to get out. Xandria smirked and said, "I was right about blocking them in. They may have another way out, but at least for the next hour, we won't be a Goblin's meal." The next morning, the group entered the caverns to search for the cabinet. With no turnaround in the climb, Xandria cast a floating disc with bow drawn to go down and ensure no Goblins were waiting nearby. As the hallway was safe, the rest of the group came down, and Xandria, with bow out, took rear-d. Lucien almost tripped over a trap in the statue we later discovered was Stonecrusher's stepfather. Under the statue was a battle axe engraved with Stonebreaker's family crest. We arrived at a room and found the cabinet, which also had another battle axe that we realized was for Ballcrusher. There was also a bag with five rings, two were magical. Sylfaren held out his hand. "I would like to check the book." He flipped through the pages and said, "So this is evidence of his lineage, making Stonecrusher a bastard lord, and his brother Ballcrusher rightful heir. " Syfaren shrugs, "Good means we can keep all the other stuff as per our deal." Hearing the drums and the fighting amongst the Goblins, we decided to bug out, and take the items back to Stonecrusher.
On the way back to the tavern, Xandria remarked that Ballcrusher was still gone. She mentioned that fact to his brother, Stonecrusher, who said he probably is at home. Xandria argued that he told them Ballcrusher went up that hill daily, and now he left and never returned. He'd been gone for two days. Stonecrusher looked at Xandria, stupefied. "I cant' believe me, the evil person in this tavern gives more of a shit about your brother than you do... go look for him, you twit!" Xandria growled at him until he ran out of the tavern to find his brother. Stonecrusher found him off in a ditch somewhere, alive, but hungover.
As a collective, the party feels like Stonecrusher is trying to steal from his brother, who seems to be the rightful heir of their family titles.
As the group talks to Stonecrusher about his family, we discover that wasn't the case; he wanted their family heirlooms back, nothing more, nothing less. Stonecrusher cried real tears when he got the axe his stepfather made for him. He did love him.
