Valvarthyr Flavinius Valentinian
My name is Valvarðr Flavinius Valentinian. My Scroll Master, Skovor Logros, has compelled me to spend my time recovering from my most recent injuries scribing the story of my life so far. I dislike writing of myself but he has convinced me that starting an archive for the future Grand Masters of my order to build upon is a worthy venture.
I was born the son of a human viking and a high elf mother. My mother was a very conniving and politically minded upper class woman. It was a shock to the entire community when she and my father, the bawdy, drunk, brutal warrior from the sea chose to wed. Not too long after the scandalous ceremony, I was born. Initially raised in and shunned by the upper echelons of elvish society I learned to play at politics. Once I was of age, I went to sea with my father and learned the ways of the viking: sailing, fighting, drinking, surviving.
After years spent learning under my father, I was called to service of the original Order of the Scaled Spear in a more direct way than most. Our ship was attacked by what we called at the time a leviathan, but I later learned was demon. while fighting the beast, a group of paladins appeared seemingly out of nowhere and helped to slay the beast but not before it landed a mortal blow on both my father and the ship. The paladins offered to take me with them using the same magic they used to appear on the ship and save me from a cold death in the freezing waters of the northern sea. With nothing left to lose, I joined them.
After years of training, I was sent on my first and last mission with the old Order of the Scaled Spear. We arrived in The Burning Plains in force to fight off a demonic incursion that had forced itself into reality there. We believe that a hidden cult of some sort must have been hiding there to summon such a force of demons. The Order fought and died attempting to stop the incursion. I, and a few others, survived one way or another. Some were saved by paladins of other orders that arrived later. Some took part in a fighting retreat after the main force shattered. I and a few others were flung into portals. I eventually recovered from my wounds and hurt pride and went out to gather strength and support to reform the shattered order.
Eventually, following some of the lessons of my father, I gained enough coin and resources to find myself in Quenton and participated in the founding of the mercenary company that would eventually become the adventuring group Brenner's Best. We fought to save the druids of the north and saved many lives. This is also where I found my sword, Crownfall. We passed through Firbolg village, the home town of our compatriot, Ravyn with a Y. In these early days of travel with Brenner's Best, we learned quickly that our druidess, Ona, could do anything, including predict the weather. We eventually made our way south-west to Beric, helping those we encountered on the way. In Beric, we slew a maniac armed with powerful artifice and gained the support of the academy. After saving the city we delved into the shadow realm to save our comrade, Roscoe, from a shadow curse that had hold of his soul. This is around the time we met our constant companion, Benny the fox person. We then made out way to Theria where we aided the Duchess of House Iramar with recovering her fallen husband's sword. We then traveled east on our way to help our friend Korvin save his family from diabolic influence. On our way we learned of the existence of a blood magic cabal that was hunting our companion, Dornan. After making our way to the dragonborn desert we involved ourselves in the politics of the dragonborn and eventually slew the corrupted aspects of Korvin's family. We journeyed west and found Beadle and our Order's wizard. Using magic we traveled to Tarragon, then Parth, and eventually back to Theria. We departed Theria and made our way to the capital of Seradon. There we uncovered the blood magic cabal that was hunting Dornan and saved the crown prince of Seradon from death at their hands. Thus ended my time with Brenner's Best, for we parted ways to better the world in the ways we saw best or retire and enjoy well earned rest.
After parting ways with Brenner's best, Beadle and I took our rewards from the new King of Seradon and used them to reform the Order of the Scaled Spear, now an order dedicated to both Bahamut and Ilmater but still focused on the cleansing of demons from the prime material plane. Our new fortress monastery was built south of Parth but our holdings and outposts have spread all over the world. Gathering paladins, fighters, wizards, and clerics, as well as a few rangers, we leverage the magics of the Broken Pyramid and our wizards to go to wherever in the world we are needed to fight off the demonic hordes of the Abyss. We recruit from all over the world, but we have a preponderance of humans due to the recruitment rights we have with Seradon. I have personally trained more than 100 of the order's members and recruited more than 500.
I have fought in the plains of Seradon, the forests of Selthys, the mountains of Belzad, the Dragonborn Desert, and, most recently, the shores of Gnomes. In this most recent action we fought a marilith and her horde of lesser creatures. After sending her back to the Abyss, we were set upon by the barbaric denizens of the island. They did more damage to us than the demons. We lost a quarter of our strike squad to the crazed gnomes before we were able to escape. I broke both of my legs in the escape and I now lay in my chambers recovering and writing this manuscript. I hope to add to it someday and that this is only the first of many Grand Master entries in our archive.
