Selthys

The glorious capital of The High Elven Kingdom of Selthys, Selthys city sprawls at the heart of their ancient forest. Grown or carved into the massive trunks lie such wonders as the Royal Selthys Mages College, the Castle of the Elves, the Library of Eternity, and a thousand other points of interest.   It's said all forest paths end here. The city serves as a central hub for trade goods, magical items, and information with few equals across all Talun - despite it's inland locations. People come from the world over to see the beautiful treetop heights, learn the secrets of the arcane... or taste the famous "Sludge Bomb" drink in it's city of origin.

Defences

It's walls are a solid ring of living wood, dozens of feet thick and stretching hundreds of feet into the sky. Exactly what defenses are hidden in it's bark, or up in the massive boughs of its canopy, are unknown to all but those who keep them. No enemy force has ever reached the city, let alone lain seige to it.   Since the recent war in Seradon greatly depleted their forces, the military presence in the capital is relatively light. Most stationed here are newer recruits, as the bulk of their remaining forces garrison more realistic threats. The town guard is also fairly lightly staffed and less trained, but they have a large division of wizards to help increase their efficiency. The city is generally fairly orderly, and as long as nothing overtly disturbs the peace or disrupts trade the guard is generally willing to overlook smaller issues. Over time, this has lead to the establishment of a sizeable underground quietly operating in the city's lower districts.   In recent years a new head detective by the name of Roy Elroy has been proving very capable in cleaning up their operations, raising tensions in the lower city. Some are beginning to fear for an uprising or targeted strike against the guard and those who support them.

Districts

The town is loosely split into it's core and periphery, as well as the ground level, bough level, and canopy.

Ground level

The ground level is dark beneath the platforms of the higher levels, and carpeted in soft moss that casts an odd quiet over the bustling industry of the city. In the periphery, the ground level holds a broad cross-section of the city's lower and working class. Industry, trade and warehousing, cheap housing, and small simple shrines for the people. In the core, the periphery is mostly supporting the huge population above, massive elevators lift resources and workers up into the upper districts at all hours of the day.   Ye Unicorne's Artefacts and Reliques
"The Unicorn", as it's locally known, is one of the oldest magic item traders in the city - and the subject of many local rumors. Located on ground level near the center of the city, the dimly lit shop is carved deep into it's tree. It seems to wind endlessly in a maze of hallways and side rooms, each packed with strange brass instruments, runed gems set in silver, and gently glowing cabinets preserving rare herbs and alchemical components.   The shops purveyor is an enigmatic man who goes only by Thiliniel. He appears to be an old high elf near the end of his days, but even the oldest elves in the city remember him just the same a thousand years ago. There are many theories as to his true identity and nature, but none ever seem quite able to pin it down. When speak with him it becomes clear he's very wise and knowledgeable, but getting much of use from a conversation can be difficult through the riddles, strange turns of phrase, and his cackling laughter.

Bough level

The bough level is built on a series of wooden platforms built/grown out of the trees between 80 and 120 feet up. The platforms support medium sized buildings and shops, and some buildings are allowed within the tree trunks as well.   The Mages Mug
The Mages Mug is a popular bar on one of the lower boughs. The decor is nothing special, but the bartender LeProntus is an insightful guy, and well liked and respected in the community. A little while back he picked up a pseudodragon familiar named billy from a passing trader, and it's become something of a mascot for the store.   The Humble Alchemist
The humble alchemist is a prosperous alchemical shop that deals in reagents, tools, and herbs.

Architecture

Built into the heart of the ancient forest, the trees throughout the city can get up to 200 ft in diameter, and reach dizzyingly high into the sky. They serve as the primary structures in the city and most "buildings" are either magically grown from, or carved into the trees. Nearer the ground you'll find some wooden buildings set upon the ground and constructed of planks, but they're certainly uncommon. Giant living roots serve for roads at ground level, and woven branchways reach out between the circular platforms ringing the trunks up above.   While wooden tones and greens dominate, they are often accented with silver, gold, and blues across the city. There's no shortage of paint and pigment either, and high elven
