Borderlands
The borderlands are a contested region between The Duchy of Beric and the orcs of the Badlands. These hilly lands are defined loosely as the region between Haven and The Spire. The region is far more arable than the badlands, inciting the orcs to try at set up defensible farming settlements here; but the hills are also rich in gold and other rare minerals, driving the humans to set up mines.
This simple conflict of interest has driven conflict in this region for as long as Beric has been an established duchy.
