Personal history
Qo Jinq was born to a poor but noble family. He was possessed of great determinaton to prove himself and to raise his families fortunes. He studied and trained hard, distinguishing himself in that he recognised the value of scholarship as much as martial prowess. While not by any means naturally gifted, his sheer willingness to sacrifice anything to succeed led to his rise in the Xuvian army. Officers spoke highly of him and he soon became a commander himself. In battle he was ruthless, both towards his enemies and his own men. In time he bcame a general, and eventually the supreme general. It was here that he was faced with the problem of repelling the horse people, and soon realised that with such a wide frontier, and such a swift opponent, the only way to stop them was the construction of a great wall. The king alas, disagreed, stating that the taxes required would be so burdensome that he could not inflict them on his subjects. After particulalry devastating losses to the northern villages, Qo Jin orchestrated a coup against the King, slaying him, his wife, his children, and any other relatives as might claim the throne. He then set about building the wall.
