Green Plague

Tke'Tsuma plant disaster

While the Tke'Tsuma plant was not a very known place at the time nor a particularly noticeable research center for any of the UEN megacorporation, it was since it's inception plagued with rumors.
Rumors of what the LYSA Corporation was doing on the large chemical industrial complex started as the usual mumbling about disrespect for security and managorial abuse but quickly grew to a roar as the population realized that during particularly silent night scream of pain could be heard coming from the plant.
The police crackdown that followed the first demonstration was brutal and thorough, mass deportation started during the first week, mass execution not even a month later. The population was however unwilling to let it slide and on Sol 2675, a group of insurgent cracked the perimeter firewall and opened a breach in the outside wall. They made their way through the complex toward the central building and at 08:56 UTC while they where very close to it when the explosions happened.
No one trully know what was the original trigger probably a small explosion, some say a police gaz grenade some say it was the insurgent door breaching charge, some even say it was a self destruct charge from the corporation security force.
At 0857 a larger secondary explosion started and quickly blew through gaz line and into the ground where large detonations happened according to sismic data.
At 0858 the whole complex was leveled by a thermo nuclear explosion and most of the involved party die instantly.

Aftermath

[ While the nuclear explosion was a disaster in itself, the real problem started a few hours after the first explosion. The fleeing population quickly realized that the ground was hot and slowly expanding. A rumor spread that the explosion had triggered continental wide underground fire. Not much is trully known of what was really happening underground at the time but it appears that the Tke'Tsuma plant was in fact a covers up for an insanely large underground research complex. LYSA Corporation was quickly acquired by the UEN Senate corporation and all documents pertaining to Tke'Tsuma was destroy soon after.
After a few hours a green smoke started to escape from any ground opening and quickly grew to a dense cloud of seemingly sentient smoke. The UEN Army quickly drew a large containement zone around the whole Tke nation and sealed of the 8 575km² and blocked every inhabitant to leave, except for a few planes full of LYSA Corporation
The exact death toll is unknown but at the time of the disaster the population of the Tke nation was estimated around 8 millions personnes.

Today

The exclusion zone was reinforced by a specially designed "wind wall" of high powered fan and duct that direct the massive airflow innward and upward to prevent the spread of the Green plague.
While that UEN oppose any mention of sending rescue or investigation mission in the green plague, a group of individual usually refered as the Smoke Runners as developed a fully sealed suit that would allow one to dive in the green mist for a few hours. They are the only one willingly going to the green plague.
The UEN deemed the Green Plague a natural disaster and routinely bannish people to the dead zone as a form of death penalty.
