Harwin Parsons
Harwin usually gets suspicious looks when eyes are put upon him. He is probably five years older than his brother Edmund, but they share little in common. Both share long red hair, but instead of being curious and meek like Edmund, Harwin appears wild and unpredictable.
He is often called a buffoon or lummox but is educated, hiding his intelligence underneath a callous and arrogant disposition. He lacks fear, but he appreciates rules and often angers at the sight of men who ignore them.
He is much larger than Edmund, standing over two meters. He was close to his adopted mother, Rose Parsons, and suffered greatly at her passing emotionally. He used to be ridiculed by his uncle Argyle Parson's children until he grew taller and began beating them up until the insults stopped.
Harwin never got along with his adopted father, so he was sent to Bitters, the Hayston captain of the militia. The man grew fond of Harwin and spent many hours trying to mold the lad into a proper soldier. At sixteen, he could beat any man in the practice yards, including Bitters.
When Harwin was eighteen, he ended a hostage situation of a noble daughter's kidnapping. He had snuck through the floorboards of the cottage they were barricaded in and smote them. Harwin was deemed a hero and rewarded his Kirschner, a sword regarded as the finest made in all the known lands.
He was promoted to Bitters second, and the new station went to his head. He became arrogant, often fighting in taverns and sneaking into crofter's cottages or barns and frolicking with their daughters. Many commoners despised his behavior, and many nobles didn't care for a Nuhrish man to hold such a position.
Harwin ignored the slights and cursed many, whom he would intimidate with a menacing glance as he towered over them. Harwin had smoothed any aggression with Argyles, older sons, Arthur and Soloman, but the youngest Hawklin was his sworn enemy. They had words instantly in each other's company, and many quarrels ended with assaults.
The hate between them never ebbed, and during Hawklin's wedding, they quarreled again as Hawklin's bride appeared to flirt with him during the ceremony. Harwin was sent away to cool the tempers, and as he stood outside, upset and drunk on ale.
He was hit with pebbles from the upstairs window of the wedding hall by Hawklin's bride, and she encouraged Harwin to climb up to the window. In his drunken stupor, he did, and inside, his cousin was passed out from too much ale.
The bride flirted with Harwin, and he bedded her as Hawklin snored, only to be discovered by a peeping servant girl who ran downstairs to where the nobles celebrated. Harwin was arrested and exiled to Breeston, along with his brother Edmund. The mistake in petty vengeance torments him to this day.
They were attacked along the roads to Breeston by the Yellow Ravens, and he bested half the brigands. After the injuiry, they met the Timmons brothers while staying at the Frookuh. Days after the arrival, they accepted a task in escorting a healer and his apprentice to Lonoke. The trip was exhausting in dealing with Peregrine and Camille, and the errand brought the eyes of a foraging group led by Rishard Donning.
The foragers met with the Ravens in Billingsley, and attempted to assault them in Faust which ended in the brigands being killed or detained. His brother was blinded, but regained his sight, which baffled the healer Peregrine into helping their plight. The healer bribed the constables in setting them free, attending his brother in amazement along the way, then dismissed them in Lonoke.
He endulged in the brothels awaiting his brother to fully heal. While they were away in merriment, Camille snuch in and seduced his brother then fled from them when the stumbled back to their rooms. The action made him nervous and Harwin wanted to depart the port city.
Harwin pushed to take a passage to Dietrich to go home, but Osmond found Mero as they bickered in a tavern. The man offered another way to Breeston, but he was alone in distrusting the odd man. The way took them through Loreto where they were stalled in the village, awaiting the Nuhrish man as he was tasked in killing the rabid hounds that were slaughtering the Loreton people.
They were guilted into helping, but it ended in disaster, and they lost Osmond to the hounds after a limb snapped from the tree he had climbed to avoid the pack. Harwin fought hard with the others, killing many dogs, but succumbed to the wounds from their savage attacks. He awakened to the surprise of the Loreton people, who claim his revival, and Edmund's as a blessing from Lupretia.
After Osmond's funeral, they were secretly escorted from Loreto to a hidden village named Penenza, and boarding a cog that took them down the Bell River. The mercenary job brought wealth, but he lost his best friend, and Julius, his brother, lost an arm and is injured forever.
Upon arriving on the docks, they were arrested and faced Bitters wrath in which he discovered that only he was exiled, and his brother lied to him to increase his guilt. His absence spurned fear among Arlo and Bitters, who suggested he become a constable, so he could be watched.
