Camille Whitealder

Camille was a misfortune or as many have claimed, an accident. She was born a fraternal twin, unexpected as her brother was birthed to be the heir to the Whitealder clan.
Camille would normally be killed at birth, but Peregrine took pity on her and had her taken to his manse secretly.
He had found her a nursemaid, promising the family lands in exchange for their silence and was nursed until she was weaned. Peregrine dismissed them, and never disclosed to Camille who they were, telling her they were of no importance to her from this point forward.
She was raised by Peregrine, and he put no limits on her. He educated her in plant and herb lore. Let her train with a bow when she was young and then a sword, which is rare for a Grimm woman as it is frowned upon by the clans.
Many look at her coldly, believing her to be more than just a apprentice or valet. Peregrine never kept any servants longer than a decade, but Camille had never left his side. Most believe she is a concubine, a prize bred just for the healer as most Priest of the Nine are feared more than revered.
Camille hated almost every servant under Peregrine. She lacks any social skills, abores small talk in being cordial, and only knows what Pererine has told her due to that is the only voice she has decided to listen to.
Camille has always assisted Peregrine on his journeys to Osiris, the lands where Vaschon, the high priest rules the Grimm lands under a iron set of rules. A code as Camille calls it.
Her master Peregrine is often ignored, and she is often mocked by the other priests and their retinue as the Haldocks were never known as warriors. She is an abomination to them, only tolerated due to Peregrine has been essential in keeping what is left of the first men as the women of Grimm went hollow in the womb centuries ago.
Camille has been raised to believe the affliction is a curse, and that the gods Xarl and Lupretia had abandoned them for losing faith. Their penance is to live a life of vigilance, being loyal and isolated while waiting for the gods to return and lift their curse when their pennance is over. Camille has been fine with this life, all she needed was Peregrine's approval.
When her master took a sojourn to Breeston, she came along knowing it was horrid, but a duty to assist Peregrine even if it was a task beneath him. The city was full of filthy ignorant wretches and her master insisted on helping the sickest of the lot.
Camille shook her head in annoyance, mixing roots and leaves, berries and powders into tinctures to help with this poison named "the Mist". To Camille it was a blessing, a numb death was suited for such a people who lacked any discipline, loyalty or belief in the gods.
Healing them only prolonged their stupidity, and when the gods returned to bring the Grimm back to their glory, they were going to slaughter these barbarians anyway. Her master thought she was ignorant and callous, claiming that this instinct and petty ambition was what made civilization continue to evolve while the code of the Grimm made them stagnant and isolated.
When the murder happened to a fellow Grimm in the ward they were in. She helped her master take the body. He used his gifts to "taint" the ignorant commoners with ease, but the Grimm man was beyond saving, and his last visions frightened her master. Peregrine had nearly killed himself trying to gather what he could from this strange Grimm. She had to strip his flesh, and wrap his bones while her master lie near death himself.
She was tasked by Peregrine before he succumbed to illness to find trustworthy men to escort them home. The fools were vain and couldn't follow one order, the huge lummox especially. His brother was even worse, fawning over her until they reached Faust. The fool even tried to help them, even though she was not at her best, receiving a knife wound after her master dispatched the brigands.
Edmund should have died, but for some reason Lupretia touched him and brought him back. Peregrine told her it was a sign and that the boy was favored. He needed his blood, not in its distressed state when healing, but after his sight returned.
Camille was tasked to seduce him, scratch his back as he was drunk on lust and slip away while he slept so her master could examine it. She underestimated the task, finding herself enchanted as they shared intercourse. She was weak and it poisoned her heart. Peregrine informed her that she desired him, and even had the gall to say she may be in love with him. She rebuked her master.
Peregrine wished that she continue her mission, and gave her a choice to watch Edmund in Breeston. Her callous arrogance has shielded her true desire, and that is her love for the orphan.
