Pit of Nightmares
Come gather ‘round, ye wanderers grim,
And hear the tale of the pit so dim.
Where light goes pale and courage dies,
And fear wears every face that lies.
Down, down, where the dreamers weep, Into the pit where shadows creep. No dawn, no breath, no mortal prayer, Can wake what sleeps in the nightmares there.
They say it yawns ‘neath the mountain’s heart, Where protectors were torn and worlds apart. A voice below still hums its tune It sings of ash, it sings of ruin.
Down, down, where the dreamers weep, Into the pit where shadows creep. The stars grow still, the moons despair, For all are claimed by the nightmares there.
And if you stare too long within, You’ll see the shape of your own sin. It calls your name with a lover’s sigh, Then drags you down where hope dies.
Down, down, the dark is deep, The pit remembers, the pit will keep. Your soul, your scream, your fleeting air All lost below, in the Nightmare’s Lair.
