The Attributes!

in Definitions

Every Character has a set of Attributes that are the makeup of the character in game mechanic terms.

The first nine of these are the natural abilities of every Character in the campaign, and sometimes also feature in Gadgets, Clues, or other components of the story.   Organized by their origin of reference, these are:

Physical Attributes

describe the existence of a Character, Gadget, or anything else with its own mass within physical reality.

Dexterity

Strength

Body

Mental Attributes

describe the relation of a Character, Gadget, Clue, or informational concept to the shared intellectual reality.

Intelligence

Will

Mind

Mystical Attributes

define the power of a Character's personality, their charm or disquiet, their responsiveness to anything from subharmonic influences to emotional appeals to otherworldly energies.

Influence

Aura

Spirit

This may seem like a lot but they all have their distinct purposes and use within the bounds of the character's makeup!   Another way to organize these Attributes would be by their purpose:

Acting/Opposing Attributes

also called "Action Attributes", decide how accurately an action was made. Does the painting have the color composition intended by the art student? Did the Character grab the ladder rung they wanted?
Action Attributes start out at Factor Cost 7 during character creation or character advancement.

Dexterity

Intelligence

Influence

Effect Attributes

measure the power of the Character or Gadget: how mighty is the physical form? How stubborn or steadfast is the mind, how determined is the soul? If the attempt reached its target, was the overall success paltry or profound?
Effect Attributes start out at Factor Cost 6 during character creation or character advancement.

Strength

Will

Aura

Resistance Attributes

determine how well a Character does under pressure. They also determine how much damage a Character or Gadget withstands before its behavior involuntarily changes; if they accumulate a total of damage to one of these Attributes equal to its original value, the Character falls unconscious while the Gadget ceases to function until repaired. Should damage continue far enough to exceed a negative of the original Attribute's absolute value, the Character dies -- the Gadget is destroyed!
Resistance Attributes start out at Factor Cost 6 during character creation or character advancement.

Body

Mind

Spirit

All of the above Attributes might be replaced by certain Powers or Skills on a given roll of the dice, but every Character has these Attributes as their starting point.

Additional Attributes

exist beyond the basic nine:

Initiative

derives from the sum of the three Action Attributes. The Advantage Lightning Reflexes may also improve Initiative.

Wealth

is a comparative range for a Character's or Organization's available finance and their standard of living. It always has Factor Cost 2 during character creation or character advancement.

Tales of Justice is a work of pure, unabashed fiction. In fact, it considers itself rather heroic and quite proud of itself. Names of characters, places, events, organizations, and locations are creations of the author's imagination for this fictitious setting. Some have been inspired by other sources, which will be credited at the top right of the article.   Permission is not granted to use this material to feed a so-called Artificial Intelligence chatbot.   Any resemblance to persons living, dead, or reanimated is coincidental. The opinions expressed are those of the characters and should not be confused with either of the authors, since the characters and authors tend to disagree a lot.   Unless otherwise stated, all artwork and content are © CB Ash and Jarissa Venters, 1993-2024, All Rights Reserved.
Original CSS "Comic" theme comes from Oneriwien but has been adapted/modified and expanded by Kummer Wolfe
