The Kingdom of Nawtia Notes

Taken from a diary that appeared to have been found in the Archives of the Hall of Platitudes.   Day 347. Deep desert in the City of Hayriam Today I enter the great desert city of Hayriam. The great pyramid of Nawtia fills the skyline and the city is abuzz with anticipation. The Candishar or more simply Battle of Twins begins in a few days apparently. I have yet to understand this custom, but my contact here has told me to meet them in the Warming Sands, an Inn located not far from the gates I recently entered. They have also told me they have someone I must meet that will explain the basics of the Nawtia way of life, something that has eluded our scholars of the Assembly for more years than we would like to admit. Day 349. The Warming Sands. Today one of the great mysteries of these people has been explained to me. We have always believed that the people of Nawtia had somehow discovered a way to need no sleep but the truth is so much stranger. I have found out that every Nawtian is in fact a twin and more amazingly egg born! When they are born one twin will be the day, the other the night. Stranger still, each one is fatally predisposed to be allergic to the opposing time. i.e. To the Day twin moonlight is fatal and to the night twin the sun. What makes this even more amazing is that the creatures (I shall from this point refer to them as creatures as they certainly are not man nor elf nor anything we can classify) share a single mind. What one perceives in their awake is shared completely with their twin. I must discover more of this magic, though I am somewhat fearful of my discoveries and as such, once these last few pages are complete I will not be writing anything more down and instead memorising it for dictation at a safer time. Day 355. The Candishar began today, I also just realized we are in the no moon part of the Luna cycle which explains how they can fight twins against each other. I managed to find a seat close to the throne pavilion and got a good look at Nawtia themself. He/She/it looks very human-like but using some of our knowledge to scry power I can write here very confidently that in all my years as a researcher I have yet to see that much raw magic harnessed in a single being. The first two twins have entered the arena, the crowd is very hushed as Nawtia stands and looking over the crowd announces, “Today you both fight, the one that survives shall ascend to sit with us as one of the blessed.” I just noticed that behind Nawtia is a pavilion filled with perhaps 100-150 creatures/people that exude that same power I discussed of Nawtia but to a lesser extent. Day 375. Unfortunately, I didn’t see much after the above notations as I have spent the last 20 days evading a force that is intent on capturing “The Intruder” as they call me. What I did discover is this, when one twin kills the other in combat their soul/energy/power becomes whole in the survivor and with that they gain the ability to walk in both the day and the night, are for all intents immortal and need no sleep, no food, no water. I have also been told by someone I now trust with my life that Nawtia’s great power comes from being the first of his kind to ascend many eons ago. This is all I have time to explain right now, I will leave this book here and hope that someone finds it and returns this knowledge to the Horath Assembly in Hegelind. Please I beg of you if you have found this, go to Hegelind and talk to my brothers, this immortal army is growing yearly and if they ever decide to venture north the blood that will fill the world will wash away the mortal races forever.
