WorldEmber Prep 2024

Heyo everyone! Hope you're all as excited for WorldEmber and NovelEmber as I am! I'm planning on attempting both this year, and I'm feeling pretty positive at the moment.

Week 1: Pledge Your Goal

Choose your area of focus

I've got stub articles for a lot of countries, races/species, cultures and societies in my world and it'll make linking information to other articles so much easier and less redundant if I commit to actually getting it done! I intend for these articles to be long and detailed, so it's a good goal for WorldEmber and I'm confident I'll hit my goal fairly easily. This will be fantastic motivation to actually get it done though!

Create or update your meta

Thankfully I updated my world meta for Summer Camp and it's still more-or-less in-check! I actually imagine I might end up tweaking it again after I end up completing some of the WorldEmber articles I write, which will be extra useful!

Week 2: Prepare Your World for New Readers

Review your homepage

Elevator pitch update time! I've been putting this off so badly, and I'm glad I've finally got the push to force me to come up with something more creative than a "click a link!" kind of homepage!

Create or review your world primer

I've actually never had a primer set up until now, and I'm glad I've been able to push through and make a starting article summing up my world. If you want to check it out, you can find my new primer here!

Set up your community tools

Already set up! I'm actually cutting down on social media of late, rather than gearing up; I do need to update my ko-fi link though!

CCS wizardry:

Man I wish! I'm still an absolute spud when it comes to CCS and styling, though perhaps after new year would be the time to try and learn! I'm using a default styling set with a few small customisations, so I'm fairly confident it's close enough to what I need for now!

Week 3: On the Hunt for Inspiration

Read a book or watch a movie

Man, I loved this week's homework! I finally finished Arcane, and have been replaying The Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and Rimworld. I've also been reading the Wheel of Time, and Six of Crows! I always keep a little notepad and pen in places I watch TV/movies, as well as by my computer, which I've found is a great way to jot down bits of inspiration!

Make a moodboard

Oh boy, I really needed a push to go and spend an hour on Pinterest looking at some pretty inspo! /s My little millennial heart LOVES making little Pinterest boards for inspiration! As a little "extra credit" in this area, I've ordered myself a pin-board for my studio! I'll be cutting out bits of inspirational art, writing, or photographs and pinning it to the board to keep my mind open while I write and draw over December!

Create or expand your writing playlist

Another thing I LOVE to do! I've already got extensive writing, worldbuilding, and character playlists, but I found during NovelEmber that I'm quite prone to writing along with some of the generic Spotify "dark classical writing music" style playlists and I've been starting to curate my own for WorldEmber!

4: Harness the power of friendship

Find a community

I'll admit, with NovelEmber I've been behind with my homework! I got quite a fright the other day when I had a bunch of new positive comments and likes on articles, and I'm always so thankful of events like this that spur the community back into full swing! I'm hoping to get a little more active with the Discord Server. Most importantly, I've been sharing my NovelEmber progress and WorldEmber plans with my closest community; the D&D group I DM for in my setting! I'm super super excited to be able to drop new lore in their Discord chat over the next month!

Plan a writing schedule

I'm lucky enough to work from home as a housekeeper/running my art business, so I'm a little more free than most this December. That being said, I've got a lot of work to do leading up to the holiday season and I'm hoping to avoid my usual trick of jamming everything in at the last minute for WorldEmber! I'm hoping to get the bulk of my writing done in the first half of the month, a goal I really need to stick to!

Get some fresh air!

Time for designated lawn-and-tea time!

WORLDEMBER GOAL: 10,000 WORDS

Progress: 0 / 10,000
