Tomas Nat

Tomas was born in Miami Oklahoma, and is a member of the Native Tribe that lives there. When the magic returned to the world, the land remembered who had taken care of it first, and many of the native tribes found that magic reacted to them stronger than other people. Tomas's wings were only one of the ways that they were affected, as almost ALL native peoples gained some sort of magic. 
Growing up Tomas was a fairly quiet and nervous kid. The nature of his wings, being those of a black vulture, did tend to have negative effect on his making friends and a little on his own self-worth. Since Vultures/Buzzards tend to play negative roles in folklore. Tomas often tried to stay under the radar, this is probably where his cautious and fearful nature began to form. He worked hard in school getting fairly good grades. Then when he was about to start middle school he was offered a scholarship to The Academy @ the Rookery. This was the first time he had ever moved. But because of the wonderful opportunity presented to not just Tomas, but his family as well, they chose to move to New Houston.
Entering the Academy brought Tomas into a very nervous and reserved state of mind. He thought at the time that he would never make any friends, but that thought was quickly shattered by one Trish Barley. Trish, being her introverted self, adopted the shy introvert in her class, unknowingly becoming Tomas's first friend. 
With Trish by his side Tomas found himself becoming more and more comfortable with people. That also helped him to manage his emotional boundaries, which as an empathic person he needed. Tomas himself says, that without Trish he would not have the friend-group he has today. This proved to be a great comfort to him, as this support network helped him whenever he read something slightly scary and kept him from sleeping well. [This happened more times then he cares to admit, as he has a morbid curiosity towards the spooky] 
In Tomas's senior year of High School, they were told that they could begin their Courier Training if they wanted to. This intro told them the pay-scale, possible hours, and the sub-jobs that fell into the job of Courier. Including the job of Curse Control Operator, which at the time Tomas wanted nothing to do with. Tomas decided to join the Courier Training program for several reasons; 1) Trish wanted to become a Night Courier, 2) It payed really REALLY well and 3) Rookery people don't make him feel like his wings are Bad. 
The Courier Training Program starts with a test to see if you are compatible for one of the sub-jobs. Sometimes these tests are just a simple questionnaire, and other times they are a test to see if you can resist the pull from a fairly low level cursed object. This is the test that gave Tomas trouble, not because it was hard, because it was easy. This meant that they began to try and get him to join up with the Curse Control Track. 
Tomas was becoming increasingly more afraid, only because he felt like his cowardly nature would end up with someone getting hurt. In the end Trish was the one who sorted him out by saying that his fear would be a boon. She told him that he would be keeping people safe and being an inspiration for scaredy cats everywhere. After all if he was brave enough to collect the scary objects, then other could be brave enough to do that thing they were afraid of. 
Surprising himself, Tomas decided to go for it and accepted the Curse Control Training. HE loved the structured discipline of the Martial Classes, but really excelled in the psychology portion of the training. Talking people down from curses, being a generally calm and peaceful presence, those were things he already understood. 
When he graduated the program, the Curse Control Specialists welcomed him with open arms. He's been one of the best on the job since. Carefully, cautiously, keeping his hopes up.

He likes the feeling of flying. He likes being at home wrapped in a big fuzzy blanket, watching movies he knows have happy endings. He likes ambiguous ending movies. He likes soulmate tropes, and soft cute romances. He likes superheros, but only if they are treated a humans.
He hates horror, jump scares, slasher films, unnecessary gore, predatory people, and anything else that is considered scary. He doesn't like bad curse representation. He doesn't like people making fun of him for being afraid. He doesn't like that his people are treated unfaily, or that people are treated unfairly at all.
