The Touched
The return of magic has created many practical changes to the world. Everything from the introduction of magically based transformations of humans, to magical creatures, to the ability to work with magic itself. For those who were born prior to the return, the transition was incredibly difficult. The standard refrains of, 'things were working just fine, why should things change?' echoed through business and cultures alike. In the end it was a losing battle because magic is here for now, and as we are learning more about its return, it seems likely to stay.
In the early days of the return, those who were most impacted, those with physical manifestations of the return of magic, came together. They formed support groups, communes, shared housing areas, and written resources for the preservation of the group. They supported each other with legal assistance when they were discriminated against, and funds when food and shelter were needed. Rather than try to hide the changes, they instead reveled in them.
Calling themselves The Touched, helped them to remember that the magic had reached out to them and touched them. This subculture isn't based in religion, though there are several spin off cults and religious branches. It is about wanting to be treated equally and to have the same rights as other individuals. As such, they fully support other groups struggling for equality and are inclusive of gender rights, the rights of an individual to decide their own sexuality, and those of any ethnicity. They also welcome, and assist allies.
With these changes impacting nearly a third of the population, with no rhyme or reason, this group is rapidly gaining traction and positions within the government systems on Earth. Change has come, as The Touched like to say.
