United Netherlands Flood Barrier
After the Black Tide swept across North West Europe flooding many parts of The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, the Netherlands took it upon themselves to build a flood control barrier. However, it was set back many times.
First came Goblinization which caused social upheavals and rioting across much of the countryside and within all major urban centers. Much of the projected work was delayed or stopped out of fear of worker safety.
Then there was the dissolution of Belgium as Walloonia became independent and Brussels became an free city state. This crisis created many refugees and displaced persons as the population segregated itself along language lines.
The Euro Wars, then stopped all construction as resources were sent in a futile attempt to free Poland. Poland was found to be a lost cause and those resources were lost. Towards the end of the First Euro Wars, The Netherlands were bombed. This caused more resources to be reallocated to rebuilding and reconstruction projects within The Netherlands and Greater Europe as well. The Second Euro Wars further complicated rebuilding. In addition Islamic terrorism increased as the forces of the Jihad were replused back to Turkey. Parts of the already constructed flood barrier were destroyed or damage from these wanton acts.
What was left of Flanders then sought to unify with The Netherlands, thus creating the United Netherlands. Over many years funds were used to integrate both regions through infrastructure, civil projects and business development.
Now what there is of the flood barrier is a partial construction that will never stop another Black Tide, much less a typical storm surge. Those portions which are finished are a haunt of ill mannered youth who have covered every inch of the sections with graffiti and discarded trash. Other sections are used by farmers to shelter their cattle and for storage of farm equipment. Worst are the rumors of horrible awakened creatures and the infected who may or may not reside within the darkened unlight halls.
Perhaps in time when funding can be found and law enforcement hired to encourage those illegally residing within to leave, the flood barrier might be completed. Let us hope this happenes before the next great storm.
