Doctor Helen Lui

In the early 2000s the good Doctor Helen Lui began research involving embryonic transfers to help those with reproductive issues. In the course of her work she and her team developed a synthetic uterus and synthetic amniotic environment. This was the first artificial womb. With this Doctor Lui grew a human embryo for ten days. However, due to the legislation of the time she was forced to stop before the fourteen day time limit.   Fortunately that legislation was repealed or ran out depending upon which jurisdiction one lived in.   From the work Doctor Helen Lui began others were able to expand upon the basic synthetic uterus and amniotic environment to create a fully functioning artificial womb. The uneducated tend to call these tanks or vats and refer to those born from them as vatjobs. A highly derogatory term that should not be used.   A technique was created and named after Doctor Lui. By this those who could not have children naturally were able to have children using in vitro technologies the embryo would be placed into the artificial womb and allowed to develop over a natural course of nine months. This was a God send to many parents wanting children. Additionally through the use of crispr sequencing many of the unwanted traits that have plagued mankind for centuries could be removed. Some women within the corporate world who do not have the time necessary to go through a pregnancy have also benefitted. A quick visit to the doctor, an egg or two extracted, husband or sperm bank donor and nine months later they have a perfect child. Then to hire a nanny.   Other researchers took Doctor Lui's work in other directions. Some people worked out how to accelerate embryonic growth so that a fetus could reach full adulthood in a matter of weeks. Again using crispr and stem cells a universal donor tissue was created ending the need of a waiting list for those needing organ transplants. These rapid growth donors were engineered as to not develop higher brain functions. Though this is a topic of debate as to if it was actually successful or not.   Commercially the artificial womb has been used in what can only be described as eugenics programs. Men and women, but from surveys, mostly men, have been able to select a set of genetics to have their perfect wife or husband created. The spouse goes through the quick growth process, but without the engineered restriction on higher brain functions. Skillsofts and data sets can be implanted through a cyber chip or memories can be chemically encoded. Though chemically encoded memories are not yet guarenteed to also set in.   All these services are readily available as of 2087 for those with the means. Those of lower social economic status are afforded a chance with a lottery. Those without system identification numbers, well they do not exist in the eyes of our governing bodies.
