19 - Mavka 04 - Depth of Secrets

She awoke, amongst the rocks and the reeds. The water was bright, clearly she had slept until day. She stretched, and pulled herself out, swimming close to the bottom of the river, careful not to break the surface in the shallows.
The pull in her chest was strong, and as she drifted in the current, she found herself drifting out to sea. Bound to the river she was, but just where sea started and river ended was kind of nebulous. She did not particularly like the taste of the salt water the stronger it got, but it didn’t seem to harm her.
Creeping low to the river bottom, she pulled her way across the rocks and weeds, heading to the sea mouth where the mud gave way to sand. Here, the sparse reeds gave way to seagrass, and she slipped between the fronds.
She could see Seals feeding - playing - out in the rocks out to sea, but her pull was still closer, closer to shore.
She watched a seal break off from the others, and she ducked further into the reeds as the sleek animal headed, of all directions, to the harbour line. Through the murk, she watched it dive up into the open underside of a boat and disappear.
Curious. Made more curious that the pull of her heart was also that direction.
The day stretched into afternoon as, from her position, she watched the seals feed them head to bask.
Finally, her curiosity gave in, and she swam quickly to the boat.
She breached the surface of the water, and her head bumped into a plastic cover of some sort. She frowned, raising her hands and pushing on it. There was a gentle creak as it started to open, and she dived back under at the sound.
A short count, with no disturbance, and she was back to it. This time, she pushed gentler, peeking past. There was no sign of any seal, just… just a boat. A cramped but organized boat cabin.
Quickly, she dived back under as there was the thump of boots on the deck above, and she swam back to her hiding place in the reeds, heart thumping on her chest.
There she hovered, watching, As the seal from earlier dove back in the water.
Shaking her head, her eyes sore from the salt water, she swore she must be seeing things. No,‘this would need more study, why was she pulled that way? Thinking furiously, she waited for the coast to be clear, before heading back up the river.
