Miron Broadborn

Patriarch of the Broadborn family of Ashguard. He inherited the position relatively early in his life; much earlier than when most of his predecessors became patriarch in their lives. Miron has brought tremendous honor to himself and the family, but, most important to Miron, he has helped establish freedom in Ashguard. Not only is he willing to do anything it takes to preserve that, but his family's influence and power enables him to be able to do whatever it takes.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Having been born in 546 YD, Miron and Ashguard have essentially grown up alongside one another. Ashguard is the keeper of his heart. Miron was the recipient of many lavish luxuries in his life, none the least of which was his high education into economics. Miron quickly became a very valuable asset to the treasury of the Vassal-Governor, Duergothoth. But it was in his studies of economics and trade that he discovered what Ashguard (as he saw it) really wanted: Freedom. So Miron has been the voice of independence for many of the nation's top officials the past several decades. People like Regent Yorick Voldren studied philosophy under the secret instruction of Miron. However, almost no one else has resolved to become as callused and ruthless as Miron has in this cause. Much in-tow with his family, he is unafraid to murder, frame, steal and blackmail to get the results he wants for Ashguard.

Morality & Philosophy

Perhaps no one in the world has exemplified the idea of "the ends justify the means" more than Miron Broadborn. He truly believes in the cause of Ashguard, but has been willing to sacrifice his whole moral integrity in the process. He believes that if he did not fill this void, someone with worse intentions than he would come along and fill it.
He would have a dictator put in charge of Ashguard if only mortals were always as interested in Ashguard as he is. So he does his best to be the federalist-authoritarian in the political discussions. Many people in power are students of his, though they usually take a more libertarian approach to federalism than he. His greatest grievance with the establishment of Ashguard is the democratic vote on the appointment of Regent. He would have this abolished as he believes commoners should not have a voice in subjects not within their realm of profession or expertise; "We wouldn't let a shoemaker with no military experience decide on who is in charge of the military, so why do we not extend that logic to the executive office?" is a common comparison-phrase Miron uses to explain this point.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

The promotion and preservation of Ashguard's freedoms.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Miron (and the rest of the Broadborn elders) have contact and connections to every other significant (and many insignificant) guilds, families, businesses and other organizations within Ashguard. Outside of Ashguard, his notable connections include: The Flintfoot family out of Authiaire, Gerwas Olbrich, the Palevalor family out of Orkenskar, Karsus the Magi of Kydenstedd, and the town of Fjelldal in the Torendal Valley.

Religious Views

Though he holds the principle of religious freedom in high respect, he himself is nonreligious. He sees the last thousand years as permitted captivity on the part of the Gods; thus he respects their power, but holds no place for worship in his heart. He also thinks to himself that any person that does worship the Gods does so simply because they lack either the lifespan or perspective to see otherwise.

Speech

Light russian accent.

Wealth & Financial state

Being the head of the wealthiest family in this part of the world, Miron is by far the wealthiest person in this part of the world; much to the chagrin of men like Gratian Palevalor.
