Labor Union of Ghal Pelor
Solidarity! Unity! These are the founding faiths upon which the Labor Union was born. And for those leaders who dare to say they love Ghal Pelor but despise our union then a light should be made to shine upon their lie! You cannot love this city and loathe its Labor Union! We are the city!
Ghal Pelor's Labor Union was born during the early days of the city's history. The Dwarves that originally founded Ghal Pelor brought with them many traditions including that of their clan and guild system. The organizations that oversaw labor in Ghal Ankharan did so here as well but unlike the clan dwarves in the dwarven homeland, these old institutions needed to evolve to accommodate the influx of other races that came to populate the city. The long deliberation times were problematic for the shorter-lived Humans. Careers close to the Halflings peoples' culture yet given little thought by the dwarves such as culinary professionals and farmers wanted representation too. Gnome and Elven workers needed more gentle accommodations than the hardy Ghal Ankharans were used to. It was not long before Ghal Ankhar's Labor Guild evolved into what we see today, the Labor Union.
During The Queen's War the Labor Union rallied to supply weapons, raw material and any other services the effort might need to repel the Fae. Many believe their willingness to stand against the Autumn Queen was born out of their ire for being refused oversight in the Fae's Manacite industry. Those who take this cynical point of view ignore horrors unearthed when the Queen's Dread Forge was finally breached by the Tairosian armies. Inside, the atrocities committed by the Fae against those they enslaved in the refinery came to light.
In modern times the Labor Union has become perhaps the most vocal and outspoken organization in Ghal Pelor. The leveling of the Dread Forge has become both a galvanizing event and something of a holy myth for the hardline members of the organization. Their rhetoric has become fiercer, their condemnation of disruption and violence committed in their name has softened and those sympathetic to their cause have been elected to the city council in record numbers. The Labor Union enjoys incredible popularity in the city and is slowly spreading to both the Farmlands of Ghal Pelor and the gnomish city of Homestead. Even a large portion of the New Sanctuary Expedition consists of Labor Union workers and leaders, all hopeful to spread their message to a new city and rally the elven peasantry against Melanthris .
Structure
Union members are organized street and bloc and generally all report to their Union Steward who helps coordinate the efforts of all the people/resources they are responsible for. They then report upward to the Union Custodians who generally oversee whole industries (I.E. The Agriculture Custodian, the Iron Workers' Custodian, the Masonry Custodian ect ect ect). The Custodians then report up to the Union Leaders, often known more casually as the Bosses or the Boss Council, who are responsible for the overall health and agenda of the organization. All roles are voted on and filled by members of the Union during events known as Union Elections.
