A Life to Paint
The last of our acts of passion was to paint a cage for our hearts.A Life to Paint is a seditious manifesto with an unknown author that circulates frequently within Talbot and its territory. The bulk of its text focuses on the past works of art the Talboti were capable of and how their ruling parliament stole passion from the hearts of every generation since the The Queen's Rebuke. It's a riveting piece of work that, in the opinion of Talboti nobility, has radicalized many youth toward anarchy and worship of the past. For Talboti that do leave their homeland, many carry this text with them and attribute their motivation to leave in part thanks to this book. Talbot's Parliament views the possession of this book as a crime, and those found to be printing it are sentenced to lengthy prison stays under harsh conditions. Yet, despite the penalty, there are many who keep a copy secreted away within their home, to be ready by lantern light in the dead of night. One of the ways Parliament uses to condemn this text is by pointing to the absence of fae critique. There is almost no reference to the Rebuke and the damage the fae caused. It even references some pieces of art and authors whom Parliament claims were inspired by fae muses (or who might have actually been fae rather than human). This is often justification enough for Parliament to hire the services of Dread Hunter lodges to persecute Talboti rather than monsters.
Purpose
The mysterious author's intent is to show that Talbot's Parliament has robbed generations of their passion and beauty. The text is written with stirring language and vibrant descriptions of lost beauty and the abuses of power. Its purpose is clear, it seems focused on pushing readers toward singular conclusion - overthrow of the Parliament and a return to the old ways.
