Nights End
The winters of northern Imera can be much harder than anywhere else on the continent, particularly during the polar nights that take place around its height. It was in these conditions that Nights End was born, a holiday celebration that marks the end of the long winter night, and the return of the sun in the north. After enduring many sunless days, the festivities of the holiday are a welcomed reprieve for those living in the colder northern lands, and a sign of brighter days to come.
History
The Nights End festival originally began among the people of northern Ulfgard, before eventually spreading to the rest of the region, as well as the neighbouring Mountain Dwarves. After the Orcs settled in northern Imera, the tradition eventually began to be adopted by them as well.
Execution
Most of the daylight hours of the Nights End festival are spent socialising and preparing the community for the coming celebration. During the evening, the celebration consists of music, dancing, storytelling, perusing market stalls, and feasting, and the communal bonfire is lit in the town center to commemorate the end of the long winter nights.
Components and tools
Common components of the Nights End celebrations include various instruments, foodstuffs, and kindling for the communal bonfire.
Participants
All members of the community, as well as any visitors, are welcomed to participate in the Nights End festivities, and it's typically the head of the community who oversees the festivities.
Observance
Nights End is typically held on the 21st of Winters Height, around the end of the polar nights that define the winters of northern Imera.
