Kharughiin
Located on the eastern coast of the continent of Aesuth, Kharugiin is the mythic ancestral homeland of the Orcs (or the Urkurgui in their tongue). Named for Kharug (the Orcish name for Khaeyar, the Elari of strength, battle and thunder, and supposed creator of Orckind), the windswept plains of this region, and the storms that often sweep through it, appealed to the innate desire of the Orcs to constantly test their strength and overcome adversity, eventually becoming the site of their first kingdom, Shuurgahz. This land would eventually be lost as a result of the great war between the Orcs and the Giants, forcing them to flee across the Stormwrack Expanse to their current homeland of Ordan in northwestern Imera, though many still dream of the day they would return to the land of their ancestors.
Geography
Kharughiin primarily consists of flat, grassy plains, with some rivers running through the region, and a large lake near the city of Shuurgahz. To the north, the land becomes more hilly, eventually transferring into mountainsand tundra, forests lie to the west, and the land transfers into dry wastes to the south. To the east lies a rocky coastline and the Stormwrack Expanse, with a number of smaller islands beyond.
Climate
The climate of Kharughiin is generally dry and windy, and has frequent storms. Summers here are short and warm, while winters are much longer and colder.
Natural Resources
Kharughiin has arable land for farming, fresh water from the rivers, and some metal deposits in the northern lands near the mountains. Additionally, the peaks of the northern mountains are said to hold deposits of Stormsteel, a unique form of metal with the innate ability to channel lightning.
History
All of what's known about Kharughiin comes from stories passed down by the Orcs. According to the myths, this land was where the Orcs first arrived in the Mortal Realm following their creation by Kharugh, for whom they would name the region. Over time, these first Orcs would settle and tame the land, eventually establishing a mighty kingdom to rival the Mage Empires of Imera and Vraelia to the east. Unfortunately, this kingdom would fall as a result of the war with the Giants and their kin, one which would also see the Orcs driven from Kharughiin in a great exodus across the Stormwrack Expanse. Though their homeland had been lost, its legacy is still passed down across the generations among the Orcs, and many still dream of the day they would return west to reclaim the lands of their ancestors.
