Faria

Located on the eastern border of the Sun Elf kingdom of Helarion, the city of Faria is steep in a history of conflict between the Sun Elves and their Sythssyan neighbours. due to it's location on what once was the southern frontiers of ancient Ithyria, Faria has repeatedly been the site of many battles between the two rivalling empires, arising a changed city each time.

Demographics

The population of Faria primarily consists of Sun Elves, though it's not uncommon to also see Sythssya or Humans of Zemari descent here either.

Government

Faria is overseen by a Lord, typically descended from one of the Great Houses of Helarion, who answers directly to the monarch in Kena Allanar. Most of the taxes collected within the city go towards maintaining its infrastructure, while a portion of it is sent as a tithe to the capital of Kena Allanar.

Defences

Faria is surrounded by a large stone wall, which has been enhanced and strengthened multiple times across the ages. The fortress quarter is also surrounded by its own walls, and serves as the main fallback point in the event that the city is breached. Additionally, the city can call on the nearby fortress of Menathyr for reinforcements.

Industry & Trade

With the age of conflict between their two empires behind them, Faria has become one of the biggest centers of commerce between the Sun Elves and Sythssya.

Infrastructure

Faria has a number of markets and workshops, as well as a sizeable barracks, all of which are connected by a network of stone roads.

Assets

Faria has access to stone quarries, workshops for crafting building material and goods, and a barracks and armoury for its defence.

History

When it was first constructed, Faria was originally a mining settlement meant to harvest stone from the nearby hills to supply to the rest of Ithyria's southern colonies before growing into a respectably sized fortress town. When the first Ithyrian - Sythssyan Border Disput began, Faria would quickly fall to Sythssyan occupation shortly after the fall of the nearby border fortress of Menathyr, only being reclaimed near the end of the conflict, and requiring extensive recovery work. Being so close to the border between the two rivalling empires, Faria would frequently find itself caught in the middle of their conflicts, and over the course of the three further three wars that would follow, the city would frequently recieve great damage to itself and its infrastructure through battles and sieges before being built back up again, either by its original Sun Elf owners or the Sythssyan invaders who've occupied it. Though Ithyria had long since fallen, the citizens of Faria take great pride in the resilience of their city.

Architecture

As a result of it frequently changing hands during their conflicts, the architecture of Faria is a blend of both Sun Elf and Sythssyan style, with open designs to allow sunlight in, artistic elements representing the sun, tall structures for the most important buildings, and a mix of graceful and geometric shapedin their structures.

Geography

The surrounding terrain is rocky with some arrable farmland, and a river a short distance away.

Natural Resources

The hills around Faria are a rich source of much of the stone used in its construction.
