Tragus, love, loss and adventure

Tragus opens his song with the line "Of all the wonders in our world, I will sing to you of hearts that beat like drums and spirits that shined like stars."   His song begins with wonder at the trees once watered with blood and the majesty of the multi- colored Fae who nourished them. As a young man, the defining moment of his life was when a Fae girl named Salsola picked him out of a crowd and said "you're the one I know will never let me down." He hadn't even been a candidate but suddenly he was a Guardian.   For the next thirty years, he followed Salsola everywhere. Each time the Fae he guarded changed, she pushed him to become something more. At first, he felt like a big brother, then like a close peer, and before he knew it, this little Fae he treasured was advising him like a wise elder.   Together they ranged from the Grove in the north to the Great River in the south, from the eastern peaks to the western shores. When she died, it felt too soon. Salsola's final request was that he care for her youngest grandson Phyllales as he'd cared for her.   For the next century and a half, Tragus kept his promises, moving from family member, continually making the journey from mentor to student as each Fae progressed through life. Things changed, however, when Salsola's great-great-granddaughter (Betalain) fell in love with a Dwarven poet in the city of Drifting Song. For a Fae lifetime, Tragus lived close to home. When Betalain passed, it left both Tragus and the poet (Darv) lost. They became sworn brothers, and at Darv's request, the two set out to see the world.   Tragus could have lived a life apart from Fae after that, but decades after setting out with Darv, the pair received a desperate cry for help from Betalain's grand nephew and his elven Guardian, Otholiri.   At this point, a happy chosen family begins to come together. Tragus and Otholiri fall almost instantly in love. At the same time, Darv's clan in Deepest Refractions have asked him to take two young apprentices with him that they might learn the reality of a life worth an Epic.   For a pair of centuries, things were happy. Eventually, however, Darv passed on. Otholiri followed not long after, losing her life protecting sleeping Fae from a monster attack. Tragus was the last of them, spending his final years apart from Fae and Dwarves alike. His song ends with great hope for his grandchildren and the bonds forged with Fae and dwarves.
