This letter is written in Tira’s handwriting and comes with a note that she’s writing for Doraal.
Sister,
Where do I even start besides thank you? The medicine you sent, it’s working, though slowly. Everything is fuzzy, big blobs of light and dark, but shapes become clearer every day. We don’t know yet if I’ll completely recover but I’ve made more progress in days than I have in the healer’s hands in months. Always the big sister - you’re on the other side of the world and still looking out for me. Don’t you know I’m supposed to be the protector here?
And Trilium… I’m glad you’ve found our little sprout. You’re right, I had the briefest of memories - We were in your orange grove and I was carrying her on my shoulders so she could pick the fruit and smell the blossoms. Our little sprout was stubborn about an orange that we told her wasn’t ripe despite its color but she thought it was the “prettiest one.” Poor little sprout, Mistress told her if she wanted to eat it she could but she had to eat it ALL. The look on our little sprout’s face as she choked down the sour fruit - how could I forget something that cute?!
As much as I want to defy you, to batter down the wall in my mind, I trust my big sister. Still - if you can’t bring her home within a decade, you can’t blame a father for borrowing a dragon and coming to find his daughter, right? Take care of her, and thank you for watching over our treasure.
Knotrael though - we’ll work it out. It’s complicated now that he’s home. I cannot deny him the rewards he’s due but your armies and mine serve different purposes. His final actions before crossing the barrier earned him a post as a Fortress Commander. A decade or two of doing that will help round out his qualifications to become a general in his own right. More, as a Fortress Commander, he can be assigned somewhere closer to home where he can actually spend more time with his loved ones. The politics of it all get complicated too. Tira tells me that out there, you’ve been mowing down any opposition and there’s no authority you need to bow too. If they’d stayed there, it would have been easier. For now, I’ve given them all my blessing, and we’ll do the right things in time. I hate asking them to wait, but a delegation on dragonback created a storm that Tira can tell you all about. I promise that I’ll make it up to them for asking them to wait to make it official.
I’ll write again soon. I’m eagerly awaiting healing - I want to see the wonders you sent me and to put faces to the new voices. You’ve been busy, sister and I miss you terribly. You’ve sent home amazing family members but they aren’t you.
As much as you can, be safe, keep our treasure close, and write soon.
Doraal
