Windcallers

History of the windcallers

The windcallers had already existed in the Eyrie, the ancient home of the valturo, and their service was needed even more in their new home, the Cutter. Although the valturo is quite adept at flying, even from the beginning, they needed information when a bigger storm was expected to protect their nests and chicks. The second, somewhat lesser reason was to found this group, in case stronger winds had blown the valturo so far out to sea, far from their mountain, that they might never find their way home.
When they moved to the Cutter and began to make acquaintances with other nations and cultures, they discovered that other nations were engaged in similar activities. However, it wasn’t as vital for them as it was for the valturo. The scholars who studied the winds, storms, and everything above ground were called forecasters. The valturo quickly absorbed their knowledge and shared with them what they had learned. To recognize the knowledge of the valturo in this field, it was a windcaller who became the first member of Brillansis.

Who can become a windcaller?

A windcaller must be strong, enduring, a good flier, and they must have a good intuition to predict the movement of storms. As a result, the selection of windcallers is highly rigorous, and only the most suitable candidates are hired. Even after this comprehensive hiring process, many of them do not make it through to the end of their training, but those who remain are the best of the best. Luckily, this profession is so popular that there are always enough new candidates.

Where do they operate?

Since moving to the Cutter, the valturo mostly learned which are the most dangerous places where storms can come without any warning. The windcallers continuously monitor these areas to warn the nests in the path of the storms. Of course, the windcaller watches over every potential aerial hazard, but currently they lack the numbers to oversee the whole mountain.
Their knowledge and dedication are unquestionable
