Dimming Net

What is it used for?

From time to time, when Tacillia is close to Abundance, the bloom's reproduction cycle changes completely. If this is not kept in check, the bloom can overpopulate the seas, destroying all marine life. Because of this, the two species most affected by the bloom joined forces to combat this invasive species. These two species are the calamor and the valturo, because both of them are heavily reliant on the sea and sea creatures as a food source. In this fight, the valturo act as scouts and the calamor as netcasters.

How does the net affect the bloom?

The bloom is a psionic creature, especially in its gestalt form. When Tacillia is close to Abundance, this closeness either intensifies or disturbs this psionic ability. The scholars couldn’t figure it out yet. What is certain that these nets weaken the effect of Abundance, and the bloom can reproduce normally.

How is it made?

Creating a dimming net is complicated and quite costly. The two main ingredients are skat'ra silk and intal from the valturo. The calamor smiths make the net. They smelt the intal, and they spread it thinly over the silk. This creates a lightweight and somewhat flexible net that can be laid over a creature infected by the bloom. This net must be on the host creature until Tacillia moves away again from Abundance. Usually, this takes a couple of days, and the calamor netcasters can retrieve the nets after that.

Future plans

Both calamor and valturo want to cover a significant portion of the sea all year long, but the cost of this would be staggering. They are trying to convince the Dominion of the Hobgoblin to partner with them, but so far, these negotiations haven’t been successful.
Their second plan is to utilize the ancient bones and remnants of technology that the Rending unearthed. However, this research has been even less successful than the negotiations so far.
