Caverns & Taverns WorldEmber 2024

Week 1

Last year, I made the ambitious goal of 50,000 words, and was able to just barely reach that goal. Since I was able to do so last year, I'm going to set to reach that same goal this time around. Although there wasn't anything "wrong" with my writing than, I'm going to try and put some more care and focus on creating higher quality writing, now that I've proven that the quantity aspect is easily handled.

There's two big areas that I want to handle this year in WorldEmber. First I have a lot of places, on a big, big map, with sparse little written about it. Particularly, I want to write about the political leadership of the different parts of the world, and their systems of government. Although they are all different dictatorial states, they by nature won't all have the same structure or level of power to the head of state. Likewise, not all tyrants and monarchs are the same, and I want to show that.

I want to take a stab at writing about the various capitals and large cities of the world as well, although this will be more difficult for me, in finding ways to differentiate one large medieval era fantasy city from another.

There's also some areas of the project that I've written where nothing exists but name: The Clone Wars as written in A New Hope. Developing some of these vague, named entities should still be within the spirit of the event, and might allow some greater inspiration for the writing I've already provided, or may cause me to go back and take another draft to my writing.

Week 2

I decided to change the theme of the world over to Bright Fantasy, which seems to put the world in a better visual to me: it seems more consistent to how the world 'feels', for me. I'm not so sure about the cloudy background, but it's less distracting than what I had before, so I'll take it.

As far as updating the Homepage I updated the Vignette blurb beyond two sentences into a more thorough and hopefully engaging description of the world. I cleaned up somethings that weren't needed or used, like a few Timelines that had nothing in them.

A big thing for me was adding some custom content, of adding links and images to each of the playable characters in the story of Caverns & Taverns. If I keep adding more, It might get a little too long, but it works for the moment, especially with embedded images

As far as primer pages and social engagement, that's a little tricky for the project. Since the website C&T is written on is explict and 18+, all of the social engagement I'm doing should be one way, from that site to here, particularly as far as the front page is concerned.

Week 3:

I usually have music going while I write, with a random play all or a generic metal playlist. This time I think I'll sharpen a playlist down more specifically to things that will help me write better. Some of them, like the first songs, will be very on the nose for writing a fantasy world, and some of it will just songs I like that help get me into a particular mode.

Week 4

I have a major essay due for my major by the 11th, so that will eat considerably into time, as will work and normal family time. I imagine most of my writing time will be done in the evenings, when there's little else going on.   looking forward, I dont know if I'll realistically reach my goal, but as last year, I'd rather set a high goal and not reach it than be satisfied with something easy.
