Syteria National Autonomous Government

"The ancient world was an idol with feet of clay. Endless wars and unrest made its already brittle foundations collapse, until the cataclysm that eroded the entire planet save for our glorious city. Syteria arose from the ruins of a decadent civilization, strengthened by ideals of peace and order, an ideal that we still pursue to this day. You, citizens, may rest easy knowing that your home is safe thanks to the unwavering watch of your ministers."

The Syteria National Autonomous Government, or S.N.A.G., is the central authority ruling over the city of Syteria. It was proclaimed shortly after the establishment of the city, when a strong leadership was needed to maintain law and order for the distraught refugees. Even as they faced initial resistance from the ragtag groups coming from different cultures and ethnicities, the leaders of the new government deployed their best efforts to convince everyone that central management was in their best interest.

Nationalisation

Before, Syteria was a thriving city of industry, and many of the factories remained operational, some even retaining their directors. However, due to the dire needs, the new government announced that no private benefit could be made from what rightfully belonged to the people. It would strip property rights entirely, but all profit would go directly to the state, no matter the kind of work or service provided. In exchange, the S.N.A.G. guaranteed the existence and even development of all businesses deemed essential.

Security

Danger is everywhere. Not only must we be wary of the outside, and the monsters that roam our very streets, but groups of insurgents appeared shortly after stability, wolves waiting in the shadows before getting out of their lair. The safety of the people is the first and most important concern of the government, which puts great efforts into making sure these numerous threats are not endangering the life of innocent citizens.

Acceptance

The world outside is dead, a desolate radioactive wasteland filled to the brim with monsters and abominations ready to tear apart the meek. The electric wall protects Syteria, but the city-state lacks the manpower to attempt any expedition outside. Instead, it has come to accept that it is the ultimate stronghold of humanity, which must learn to survive before it can think of reclaiming the planet.

Utilitarianism

The old regime had utterly failed, showing the flaws of a meritocratic democracy. In the new Syteria, the top citizens are the most useful to the greater good, and all contributions are regarded solely through this principle. This is a matter of survival, where everyone must cooperate to the best of their abilities to ensure the persistence of all.

"What a load of bullshit. They trap us inside walls, closed surrounded by an electric fence and impose their rotten ideas on the people, killing them at the first disagreement, and then they have the audacity to blame those that came before? As much as the old world fucked up, the SNAG is even worse if you ask me."

The SNAG is the dictatorial government that rules over Syteria ruthlessly. In the early days, after many people joined the city looking for shelter, multiple armed groups fought for dominance over the scattered remains of humanity. One of them just happened to have more guns and better strategies, but was as morally bankrupt as the others. When it proclaimed itself the new government, some people not involved in thug's strifes tried to oppose them, but were met with a thunder of lead. Since then, we live under the thumb of despots and their wretched ideals.

Omnipresent state

Through their monopoly of the guns and alliances forged with the industry leaders, the new government took over every single enterprise, from the Peacekeeper Drones factory to the bakery, it all belongs to the state. And woe to the one who would try to improve its condition or deviate slightly from the national guidelines, because at the end of that path is an execution without trial.

Authoritarianism

In the guise of security and protection, they managed to strip every single scrap of liberty that people could aspire to. Drones patrol the streets, with authority to execute people on the spot if they are deemed a threat. And if not the machines, then the order officers, power-hungry individuals jumping on any occasion to exact abuse and power-trip. This is a police state, no less, one in which even the slightest contradictor has to live in hiding or forfeit their life.

Resignation

They closed off the city from the rest of the world, preventing even the rebels from leaving, shooting anyone who comes too close to the wall. Whether they are right or wrong, they spread the idea that nothing awaits humanity beyond the barrier, so that no one tries to leave or rebel. Not that the last point is very successful. If the world still exists, the government will make sure that it will never be able to penetrate the city wall.

Do or die

The state is the only one with authority to decide what is useful for the greater good and what is not. Notwithstanding the morally bankrupt premise, that they are the ones to decide arbitrarily the usefulness of something is an open door to a heap of loopholes at the top of which they sit. Of course, the administration is the most useful thing to society while farmers and factory workers may as well grovel and die.
