5e Racial Stats

  • Ability Score Racial Traits: A tiefling derives its racial ability score traits from its subrace, given below.
  • Type: Tiefling are humanoids with the Planestouched subtype as well as the subtype(s) of their base parent race.
  • Size: Tiefling are the same size category as their base parent race.
  • Speed: Tiefling have the same speed as their base parent race
  • Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common and one language derived from your base parent race.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Fiendish Legacy (2)

You know the thaumaturgy cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the hellish rebuke spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Fiendish Resilience (1)

You have advantage on saves and checks made to resist the effects of Disease or the Poisoned condition.

Sub Race

A tielfing gains abilities based off of one of the ten sub-races; Faultspawn, Grimspawn, Foulspawn, Pitborn, Hellspawn, Spitespawn, Shackleborn, Hungerseed, Motherless, or Beastbrood.. See the entry given below for the abilities and traits derived from this sub race.

Asura-Spawn (Faultspawn)

The scions of the exotic and mysterious asuras are swift and wise, but often favor traditional ways over cunning.   Asura-spawn, or faultspawn as they are sometimes called, is the name given to tieflings who are descended from the violent inhabitants of Hell born of the mistakes and accidents of gods: the asura. Like their asura ancestors, faultspawn tend to derive a deep joy from witnessing the myriad failures of the gods and will often devote themselves to the ruin of religions whose values and beliefs do not align with their own. Physically, asura-spawn tend to possess odd physical traits, such as forked tongues, or long limbs that can twist in strange, disturbing ways.

Asura Heritage (1)

You gain proficiency in the History or Insight skill.

Asura's Hate (1)

You know the vicious mockery cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the hideous laughter spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the crown of madness spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Daemon-Spawn (Grimspawn)

Daemon-blooded bringers of devastation are shrewd and swift, but their plans frequently exhibit exploitable flaws.   Daemon-spawn, or grimspawn as they are sometimes called, is the name given to tieflings who are descended from daemons. Grimspawn tend to find themselves unnaturally fascinated by sickness, decay, and death in all its many forms. Therefore, grimspawn can usually be found at the sights of epidemics, natural disasters, and war zones. Grimspawn tend to appear unnaturally thin, their skin sallow and their eyes often a dead, milky white. They also often bear what appear to be large festering wounds, although these injuries are only cosmetic. As a result of their general appearance, they are sometimes mistaken for actual undead creatures.

Daemon Heritage (1)

You gain proficiency in the Deception or Sleight of Hand skill.

Daemon's Nihlism (1)

You know the toll the dead cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the death knell spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the vision of entropy spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Demodand-Spawn (Foulspawn)

The burly spawn of the demodand race possess bizarre cunning, but favor brawn to planning.   Demodand-spawn, or foulspawn as they are sometimes called, is the name given to tieflings who are descended from demodands. In appearance, foulspawn normally have one revoltingly exaggerated feature that makes them repulsive, such as skin that hangs in sagging folds, or sweat like that of a tarry demodand, and they tend to have a lumbering gait. Foulspawn have personalities that seem drawn to heresy and their shrill voices seem suited to spouting blasphemies.

Demodand Heritage (1)

You gain proficiency in the Intimidation or Religion skill.

Demodand's Falsehood (1)

You minor illusion cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the chaos bolt spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the alter self spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Demon-Spawn (Pitborn)

Savage and monstrous, the terrifying spawn of demons know the chaotic fury of their Abyssal ancestors.   Demon-spawn, pitborn, or pitspawn as they are variously called, are tieflings who are descended from demons. Pitborn are normally a well of deep rage, harbouring an appetite for destruction that can never truly be satisfied. Those that give in to this rage delight, not just the feeling of creating wanton destruction but also in the knowledge that they are ruining something either beloved, desired or deeply needed. Born of chaos, almost all pitborn harbour some sort of mutation that mars their natural symmetry. For some these mutations are easy to explain away, things like different coloured eyes or an extra finger or toe, but for others it can be as extreme as extra limbs, vestigial heads or bizarre scales and spines. Most pitborn take great offence at having these abnormalities pointed out. Pitborn also sometimes arise after seemingly natural disasters, as if there may secretly have been some kind of fiendish influence behind it all.

Demon's Rage (1)

You know the primal savagery cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the chaos bolt spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the shatter spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Devil-Spawn (Hellspawn)

Stalwart and conniving, diabolical tieflings know the discipline and might of Hell’s legions.   Devil-spawn—or hellspawn, devilborn, or devilkin, as they are sometimes called—is the name given to tieflings who are descended from devils. Indeed, hellspawn is a pejorative term often applied to any tiefling regardless of their heritage. Hellspawn are the most common type of tiefling found within the material plane.

Devil Heritage (1)

You gain proficiency in the Insight or Persuasion skill.

Devil's Tongue (1)

When you reach 5th level, you can cast the enthrall spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Scouring life like a desert wind, these tieflings possess the precision and exoticism of their div ancestors.

Div's Spite (1)

You know the mind sliver cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the dissonant whispers spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the mirror image spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Kyton-Spawn (Shackleborn)

The black-hearted spawn of shadow and pain know the sadistic vices of their suffering-obsessed forebearers.

Kyton's Pain (1)

You know the sword burst cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the arms of hadar spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the web spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Oni-Spawn (Hungerseed)

The spawn of oni know the ways of their ancestral fiends and master the arts of trickery and cruelty.   Oni-spawn, or hungerseed as they are sometimes called, is the name given to tieflings who are descended from oni. Hungerseed are normally taller and bulkier than normal mortals, their flesh seems to bulge as if straining against their skin particularly during times of heightened emotion. Some oni-spawn also possess small tusks which they delight in using to tear into living flesh.   Oni-spawn are by nature bullies and they exalt in using either violence or coercion to get what they want. If thwarted, they will bide their time before enacting bloody revenge. Oni-spawn are driven, like their oni sires, by a constant and unending hunger for earthly pleasures of every sort.

Rare in the extreme, the warped scions of the eldritch qlippoths retain the tenacity and insidiousness of their horrific forbearers.

Qlippoth Heritage (1)

Qlippoth's Curse (1)

You know the message cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the hex spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the blur spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Fiendish Resistance (2)

You have resistance to fire and lightning damage.

Rakshasa-Spawn (Beastbrood)

Deft and charming, these bestial tieflings inherit much of the subtlety and guile of their proud rakshasa progenitors.

Rakshasa Heritage (1)

You gain proficiency in the Deception or Insight skill.

Rakshasa's Guile (1)

You know the minor illusion cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the disguise self spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the detect thoughts spell once with this trait. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells once again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them.

Fiendish Resistance (2)

You have resistance to cold and fire damage.  

Alternate Racial Trait

Ancestry

You can replace your Fiendish Legacy or Fiendish Resistance trait for any racial trait of your base parent's race that is denoted by a (2). Additionally, you can replace your Fiendish Resilience or Tiefling Heritage trait for any racial trait of your base parent's race that is denoted by a (1). Finally, if a race has an ability denoted by an (x), you gain this ability as a part of your ancestry with this race.

Feral

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1. This trait replaces the Ability Score Increase trait.

Hellfire

Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the burning hands spell once per day as a 2nd-level spell. This trait replaces the hellish rebuke spell of the Fiendish Legacy trait.

Winged

You have large bat-like wings sprouting from your shoulder blades that, when fully extended outwards, give you a wingspan equal to twice your height. All armor and back accessories must be tailored to accommodate your wings. You have a flying speed of 40 feet. In order to fly, you cannot be over-encumbered or wearing medium or heavy armor. This trait replaces the Fiendish Legacy trait.
