The Tireless Guides are primarily a faction of spiritual people, their purpose lies in assisting those who have died and those on the verge of death. The members of this order do their best to ward off death, but in the unfortunate cases where that is not the option they try to make it as comfortable as possible. In either case they wander the land to assist those who teeter between life and death.

Prerequisite

To join this faction, interested individuals must undergo a trial, completing the following prerequisites will allow entry into the faction.
  • Fulfill a request from a Guide of the faction.
  • Swear an oath of aid to the dying, and an oath of guidance for the dead.

Faction Benefits

  • Sight of the Deceased: You gain altered sight capable of seeing the lingering spirits of the recently deceased. You can use this feature once to cast the Speak with Dead spell towards the spirit instead of the corpse, doing it this way limits the amount of questions available to one, but does not harm the natural world. You regain this feature after completing a Long Rest.
  • Attribute Cap Increase: +2 to one ability score cap of your choice; this boosts the maximum of the ability score, but not the score itself.
  • Tool Proficiency: Alchemist's supplies or herbalism kit.

Faction Signifier

Mark of the Dying: This dark purple crystal skull accessory can be worn as a pendant, ring, bracelet, or earring as is the signifying mark that someone is part of The Tireless Guides. In addition to marking someone as part of this order it also serves as an empowering source of magic for its bearer.
  • Temporary Refuge: When a creature within 30 feet of you drops to 0 HP you can use your Reaction to have them be reduced to 1 HP instead. You can use this ability once, regaining its use after completing a Long Rest.
  • Shroud for the Dying: Creatures within 30 feet of you who are at 0 HP do not automatically get critically hit from attacks when the attacker is within 5 feet of the creature. This ability is only active while you are above 0 HP.
  • Spare and Raise the Dying: You learn the Spare the Dying cantrip. Additionally, when healing a creature that is at 0 HP and while within 5 feet of them you can raise them from Prone without any additional cost as a part of casting the Spare the Dying cantrip or any healing spell.

Goals

  • To find cures for new and incurable diseases.
  • To ensure that all spirits are guided properly to their rest.

Tenets

  • Prevent death as best you can.
  • Know when there is nothing left to be done, stay with them until the time comes.
  • Always search for ways to better help the dying.
  • Guide any lost spirit to its rest, even the lost and violent.
