Imparat Rurik von Karstein, the IV

Imparat Rurikov Jakab Karstein

Rurik von Karstein IV, born Rurikov is the most recent in the line of Berusian emperors installed by the Empire of Elderia. He spent most of his childhood away from his parents in Elderia proper to receive a ‘proper’ education and training to resist vampiric influences. As a result of this his relationship with his parents was weak for much of his life and many within Berusia saw him as a foreign heir. This sentiment was however only considered negative in the heartland of Berusia as many within the border regions still saw the Elderians as saviours and welcomed their influence on their future emperor.   When he returned to Berusia, he made immediate plans to form a monster hunting party and crusade across the countryside. The band was quick to draw support from nobles who sought greater influence with their emperor-to-be or simply more prestige from fighting the supposed beasts they would be hunting. However, in the years Rurik would march about the Berusian heartland he would often find little in the way of real prey; only ever cutting down the lingering beasts left in the wake of the vampires. However, despite this the effort made Rurik very popular amongst the common folk in the dozens of villages and towns he would visit.   When he felt that his time in the field was no longer serving to advance his goals, Rurik finally returned home to Karstein. His relationship with his parents was poor at best but his destiny was still mostly controlled by them. They would introduce him to who would become his wife, Klaudia of Kalinstra a native of Berusia. Rurik himself would have preferred a bride from Elderia, someone more relatable and who had gone through a similar education. This marriage was arranged to supposedly strengthen internal ties as more and more autonomy was being sought by the dukes of the realm. In the end despite his reservations he did find himself quickly enthralled by his would-be wife and it was naught but a year later that they would be wed.   The excitement in Rurik’s life would continually decline from that point, being granted a small fief within the Duchy of Karstein so that he might better learn the art of rulership. The hold would see moderate growth in the 8 years the prince administered it before being recalled to the capital proper to succeed his ailing father.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

The Imparat’s motivation stem from his formal education and childhood spent within Elderia. He desires to make Berusia a more godly country, preferring the dragon deities of his educators but generally supports the church of Napalis as well. He sees these institutions as a way for Berusia to cleanse itself of the lingering influence of the vampires.
Character written by - Sithums
Rurik is a strong willed individual who received a formal education and training specifically to resist outside influence. He seeks to primarily spread similar education to Berusia and continue the work of his forefathers in removing vampiric influence from Berusia. Some consider his ideas to be too radical and drastic and much of his efforts to reform the country have met significant pushback from the various dukes and other court nobles.

Rurik’s goals are to reform and cleanse Berusia of its corrupting influences, much like those that came before him. However, these goals have become somewhat of a backdrop for him as a design to increase internal stability has risen since his ascension to the seat of the emperor.
