Aerval

Robed in silk and its own regal wings, this humanoid assays its surroundings with the lethal detachment of the owl it resembles.   From lofty monastery-cities entrenched in soaring cliff sides and high mountain valleys, the aerval live upon great marbled spires. Erudite and aloof, the owl-like scholars embrace art, philosophy, and nebulous faiths, seeking to distance themselves from their history of barbarism and ruin.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aervals are rather small, ranging from 2-4 feet tall, they make up for their size by puffing up their feathers, and standing upon their talons, effectively doubling their height, they use this to scare aware predators, often to no avail. Their arms and legs end in talons, and seem quite similar to the Tengu in many ways; However, these bird-like humanoids have the ability to swivel their heads a full 360 degrees and very rarely show expressive body language.   Aerval can range from browns, to grays, to snowy white. Speckles are common in their feathers, though it's not completely uncommon for them to go without. As for their eyes, yellow, hazel, and orange are the most common colors to find, but there are the uncommon few that yield colors like brown and even jet black.
