Teleportation Sickness
I played my harp once on the lakeshore under the light of the Heart, and it's still one of my proudest memories. But then, well, I used one of the teleporters to try and get home from Lorunach... And now my hands just can't play anymore. As with the use of many cutting edge technologies, there is a risk of adverse effects. Teleportation, specifically in the region of Yutromorch, is no exception. For an unfortunate few, the use of teleporters have left them with lasting effects, collectively referred to as Teleportation Sickness.
Causes
As the name suggests, teleportation technology is the primary cause of Teleportation Sickness. However, the role they played in the condition can vary. In some cases, the improper calibration of the magical crystals which power the machines can result in that magic being incorrectly applied to the individual using the machine. In others, a machine malfunction can cause a teleport to fail, with its own associated problems. This latter cause is the least frequent, but is often the most severe in terms of how TS manifests.Symptoms
The effects of TS vary widely between individuals, and between what has caused it to manifest. Nevertheless, there are some general trends between sufferers, notably nausea, dizziness, and a lack of responsiveness in limbs. These are often symptoms of far more serious problems, such as a body part being shrunken or enlarged, a complete dissociation between thought and action, and a "jumbling" of internal organs.Prognosis and Treatment
While some mild forms of TS will either remain stable or improve with only mild treatment, others are far more disruptive and damaging to the sufferer. Issues with limb responsiveness can last years, and complications from organ rearrangement can be so severe as to be fatal. Quality of life can be quite diminished without swift treatment, which will often involve surgeries and magical procedures to reverse the damage done, or to otherwise ease the pain. Most with TS will nevertheless face pain for much of their lives.Reception
For some throughout Yutromorch, Teleportation Sickness is not just an unfortunate affliction, but something that strikes fear in their crystal hearts. To these people, it is not a mago-mechanical error but a sign that Be'ari - who is said to grant all magic in the region - has forsaken those with the condition. This perception is most frequent among members of the Church of the Sacred Stones, who are known to expel people with TS from their ranks, and even harass those with visible effects in the street.Remove these ads.
