Prompt 3 - Who Lives in your Region?
Who lives in your Region? And how do they get by?
This is a big one, and will likely require several articles for you to fully answer. That's OK! These early prompts are designed to help you hash out the basics of your region.
Suggested Topics
- Describe the various sentient beings in your world. Are there only humans? Are there Elves? Dwarves? Little Green Martians?
- Provide an overview of the important ethnicities and/or major cultural groups that belong to your various species of sentient beings.
- How do the members of each of these ethnicities/cultural groups obtain the food, water, and any other necessary sustenance they require? Are there farmers? Hunter/gatherers? Does manna fall daily from the sky?
- How do the members of each of these ethnicities/cultural groups shelter themselves (if they do at all)? Are they nomadic? What materials do they make their shelters from? Do they build small settlements? Dig burrows? Build large cities?
You may find that you need to generate several Species and even more Ethnicity articles. That's fine! But you should focus on the "important" ones first. If you're envisioning a different culture that's a thousand miles away in the mountains, but isn't going to be interacting with your main people at the beginning, you can worry about the far-off mountain dwellers later.
The idea is not for you to fully populate every corner of your region now, but you should be able to answer these prompt questions about the people you'll be focusing on initially. When the time comes for you to get more acquainted with a new people in your region, you can revisit this prompt and add to your world.
Submission Guidelines
- Make sure you're pointing to the Synergasia world when you create your article.
- The Suggested templates above are just that - suggestions. If you really think a different template is more appropriate, then use it. If you have a customized template that you want to use, then use it.
- In the event that your new article introduces something that changes something in your region's Canon article, please highlight this somehow. (A note in the footnotes will be sufficient!)
Suggested Template(s)
To identify the major sentient groups, the Species template will probably work best.Ethnicities and cultural groups will probably best be served by the Ethnicity template. Besides "defining" each ethnicity, this template will most likely be all you need to answer all of the questions about food, water, and shelter for each ethnicity as well. Don't forget to link the Ethnicity articles to a parent "species" article to make it easy for everyone to navigate through your populations.
The Rules
The only rule in Synergasia is that your worldbuilding is restricted to your area unless you are actively collaborating with a neighbor. If you are collaborating, let us know and we'll make an entry in the Canon articles to notate it.Other than that, your region is your world. Go for it!
There are no prizes... no judging. An article with 300 words is probably the low end of "enough to be useful", and more than 1500-2000 becomes a "wall of text" that will frighten people off. But there are no hard restrictions on minimum or maximum word count.
We will review your article and will, from time to time, extract certain facts to be included in your region's "Canon" article. These articles will be guides for you in the future, and for anyone you wish to collaborate with. ("Canon" will include things like capital cities... names of rivers, settlements, deities... major past or present events... wars... conquests... You get the idea.)
