WorldEmber 2020 Plan for Success

Task 1: The Writing Space

Clean and un-cluttered!
Realistically, I should account for the space occupied by my work's laptop, but I will do my best to put it away as soon as my shift finishes.

The Essentials

  • Music: Done! You can check my usual "Getting things done" playlists in the sidebar. I also added 's playlist which he mentioned on his Plan for Success article.
  • Snacking: Having the eating habits of a songbird means I need my munchies to be nutritious at least. My granola reserves should last for at least 2 more weeks.
  • Planned Distractions: "No distractions" is not a thing that works with me. Instead, I shall try to put in place distractions that keep me going, instead of those that make me wander to the forests of procrastination. My constant companion Nica the tail-less cat died recently, and getting her skull from the skulls shelf down to the desk will give me back my focus when I lose it
  • Mental Health: I put my pieces together, I got the help I needed and I arranged my support groups.

Task 2: How fast do i work?

Hierde by Naelín

The "Sprint" Version

When doing 15 minutes sprints, I tend to write around 260 words, ~17 words per minute.
Information taken from 3 previously-done 15 minutes sprints:
Sprint 1: 277 words
Sprint 2: 240 words
Sprint 3: 275 words

The "I am very excited about this prompt" version

When writing a whole article that I am excited (and time-constricted) about, I can write, proofread, and polish an ~800 words article in around 2 and a half hours, with lots of distractions to be accounted for, based on the article that I did for the "Shops named with puns" Flash Challenge.
That gets me down to a dissapointing 5 words a minute, but removing the distractions, and considering that I have the topics, information and pictures already set, and that I am not aiming at full-fledged finished articles, I should be able to do much better than that.

Task 3: Scheduling

The total hours

Oh boy, this will be a hard one.
I am aiming for the stretch goal of 25.000 words. Assuming 17 words a minute and adding the reccomended 25% on top, what would mean...

  • Around 12.25 hours for the initial 10.000 words goal.
  • Around 31 hours for the 25.000 words stretch goal.
31 hours, 31 days. Simple enough, isn't it?

<Pained groan> Setting time aside.

Wrong.
I have already added 25% extra to the mix, but realistically I will use around 50% of the time to actually Do The Thing, and there will be lots of days where the schedule will be broken. I set aside 1hr each working day except for tuesdays, 2hrs each saturday, and 3hrs each sunday (Total 36).
Christmas and New Year's eve are left as wildcards and I hope to be free to use all day on this.
It is looking difficult, but not impossible.

Task 4: Support Groups

Truly the most important ingredient for success in such a marathon.

#Kiosko-de-Paella:

The Spanish-speaking channel from the WA Discord. Truly incredible peeps that got me through SummerCamp when I was new to the community. These are some of the more active beans that always give their support and help. We are ohana!

Names are arranged in "I'm trying to make them fit nicely in as little space as possible" order
(Special mention to my boy Ynarkael whose username completely brokes the Usercard code):

Forgemaster Ondo

[they/them] Creator of Black Light, a science-fantasy universe.

Grandmaster Evanarix

Evan Arix

Freeman Pierrot05

Pierrot

Project: Amanic | Ko-fi | Twitter | My discord server
Actually, just 1.7 cats in a trenchcoat!

Kisater:

I've met this incredible lady around one year ago while playing Elder Scrolls Online. Ever since, we became great friends and have been supporting each other through thick and thin for all of this dumpster fire called 2020.
ven being a strange to WorldAnvil, she has helped me a lot during SummerCamp and after, and recently helped me name the Sceapilion and the Hierde.
Kisater has also become the narrator of the Swords of the Moon roleplaying story inside the Elder Scrolls Online, that you can follow on the journals of my RPG character profile Naelín (Elder Scrolls Online) (Cannot promise to update during december because, you know.)
Scenes from this story have been the inspiration for the Thorns and Apagón articles during SummerCamp.
She recently started using WA too! How cool is that?

Ada & Sebas

Weavers' Wool by Naelín

Here there shall be the drawing I promised to make of Sebas' fursona. In the meantime, have a wool ball.
Sometimes, you need to go out. Lockdown has taken a tool on everyone, specially as long as it has been here.
So, since 2020 has been a balancing act between safety and mental health care, I chose them to be the only friends I am meeting in person.
Sebas has been sneakily reading my world these days, so he knows what's coming. Ada not so much. But having someone to go have dinner and watch a movie once in a while will be a good thing to keep my sanity in check!

#Worldember-Prep:

Another of WA's Discord channels! These folk are steaming with hype, and ready to help. They are too many to count here, and I guess we will all migrate to #Challange-Discussion as soon as WE actually starts, but they have been a great source of hype-fuel and advice during november!

Are you all ready? WorldEmber is coming

This article is based on the Week 4 WorldEmber Prep Homework blog post which can be found here.

That Baphomet (if I'm not mistaken) statue makes the workspace awesome ;)

A Baphomet statue indeed! It took some time to get it, but it was totally worth it. It's my reminder to myself before others once in a while!   Thank you for your comment :)
