Returner

This article is a Work in Progress and will be finished soon™
Death is regarded with great care and kindness by the Stunveldti, who consider it a passageway into eternity, and a return to their land, which they feel a strong bond with.
They made a special town in the center of the island called Nucleus that functions as a graveyard for the entire country, worked and tended for by their inhabitant, special workers known as returners.

The work of the returners

The name of "Returner" gets applied as both the demonym for those living in Nucleus, and as the name of their profession, as almost all inhabitants of the sparsely populated graveyard town are working in some area of the funerary process.   Returners are involved in all steps of the care of the dead person: They work cleaning, preparing, transporting and burying the bodies, dig the pits, clean the towers, maintain the gardens and plant the herbs. They can also be companions and counsellors, assisting grieving families, and become part-time artisans, making memento mori.

A special ordeal

People in death-related professions are highly esteemed by the Stunveldti, and so it is not uncommon for long-standing Returners to be granted the honour of a neutral gender in recognition of their empathy and strength of mind.
