Kytharn

Kytharn stands as the worlds most trusted currency, with it's distinctively vibrant blue hue made from Kytherium, a metal with magical properties, forged from dragon fire, minted by the Thuwedari.

Kytharn Currency System

Kytharn (ĸ) serves as the primary monetary system across the realm, and operates on a decimal-based system of whole numbers, eliminating fractional subdivisions for practical simplicity of everyday use. The currency exists in two primary categories: Kytheli for everyday transactions, and Kytharn for higher-value exchanges.

Currency Denominations

Kytheli:

The foundation of daily commerce rests upon Kytheli (ĸe) coins, crafted from alloyed Kytherium that contains other metals, designed for routine transactions. These coins feature embossed dragon imagery, with their value imprinted on the coins. These coins operate on a streamlined four-denomination structure of pennies:
  • 10 ĸe
  • 50 ĸe
  • 100 ĸe
  • 500 ĸe

Kytharn / Kyth:

The higher denomination of the monetary system is Kytharn, often shortened to Kyth in casual context, and is used in substantial transactions and wealth storage, and follows the same units of four structure.
  • 1,000 ĸ
  • 2,000 ĸ
  • 5,000 ĸ
  • 10,000 ĸ

Minting Authority

The minting authority of Kytharn and Kytheli is overseen by the Grand Archmage Council, and the minting production is carried out by the Thuwedari who possess the ability to use Dragon Fire, which is the only type of magic fire Kytherium can be forged with. Forging Kytharn from any other type of fire is an impossible task for anyone attempting to counterfeit this currency, and is immune to transmutations with alchemy due to it's magical properties. Kytharn was widely accepted and adopted as the world currency in preference over gold, given how easy it was to forge counterfeits for each coin of value are sized and shaped differently

Authentication Methods

Unlike other metals Kytherium only responds to Dragon Fire which can melt it down, and is unaffected by ordinary fire, additionally Kytharn much like in it's original ore form has a distinctive cold sensation when touched making it a great conductor of dissipating heat under ordinary fire. The material is also resistant to scratching and tarnishing over time, most definitively to test it's authenticity would be to put it under a flame test of ordinary fire or heat source, where other metals would oxidize or otherwise melt, Kytharn will not under such conditions. It's 30% greater density than gold is also a tell sign for trained appraisers.

Economics and Value

The worth of individual coins correlate directly with the purity of Kytherium and it's weight measurements, Pure Kytherium commands premium value, while Kytherium mixed with other alloyed metals with Kytherium are of lower value. This purity-based system ensures that physical composition of each coin reflects its stated monetary worth, a value that extends beyond mere governmental decree. Each coin is distinctive color from the last depending on their alloy composition. 10 Kytheli coins has a more copper blue tint, 50 Kytheli coins have a more reddish colored tint, 100 and 500 Kytheli coins have a purple colored tint   While the currency system creates natural economic geography, some civilizations like the Grand Cities of Sylvantara have their own emblem imprints that are embossed on their currency that are only valid in those settlements who choose to have them. Despite this each of these settlement hold their own exchange guilds for Kytharn, but is valid everywhere no matter imprints embossed on them as their values stay the same throughout the lands.
