The Harvest's First Fire
While Syloson may be united under a single government, the rural areas and the urban areas are different enough to be two completely different lands. One tradition that makes the rural areas unique is the harvest's first fire, meant to signify the cycle of life.
Once the cold months have ended, every family in a farming village must choose one animal of theirs to be slaughtered. All of the dead animals are then stacked into a large bonfire. Once the fire is finished. The ashes are divided among the families to be scattered over their farmlands to ensure a good harvest.
History
Believed to have started on Arranox Island, the practice spread to the other islands of Syloson after the signing of the pact. It was quickly seen to help the harvests, making it more than just a symbolic gesture, but something for the genuine good of the village as a whole. At some point after its establishment, the fire began taking place in a hole specifically dug for it to make the gathering. During times of unrest where large events aren't practical, then farmers would usually burn their animal in their own dwelling, then mix the ashes together before divvying them up amongst the rest of the village.
Execution
While the type of animal to be burned isn't critical to the fire's success, it's expected that each family kill the largest animal that they can afford to lose. Farmers with smaller lots can kill a chicken while those who are more prosperous can kill an entire cow. This signifies that everyone plays a role in the function of a village, even if it may be a small one.
Participants
Everyone in the village is expected to build the fire in some way, even if it's as simple as laying just one log. This is meant to signify the role that everyone plays in the village, and that everyone is there to help those who may need it. The wealthiest man in the village is supposed to provide the most wood, as well.
Observance
The ritual is meant to take place right after the first flowers bloom.
